CONGRATULATING Ryan Hughes Watson upon the
occasion of receiving the distinguished rank of
Eagle Scout, the most prestigious of Scouting
honors, on June 10, 2018
WHEREAS, Ryan Hughes Watson, through his diligence and rigorous
efforts, has achieved Scouting's highest and most prestigious rank,
Eagle Scout; the Eagle Court of Honor ceremony will be held on Sunday,
June 10, 2018, at Plandome Village Hall in Plandome, New York; and
WHEREAS, Ryan Hughes Watson is a member of Boy Scouts of America
Troop 71 in Plandome, New York; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his Scouting career, Ryan Hughes Watson has
served as an Assistant Patrol Leader, Librarian, Quartermaster, Senior
Patrol Leader at Ten Mile River Summer Camp, and Junior Assistant
Scoutmaster; and
WHEREAS, A senior at Manhasset High School, Ryan Hughes Watson is a
member of numerous academic clubs including the Exemplars and the Math,
Science, Spanish, Social Studies and National Honor Societies; he has
been designated a National Merit Commended Scholar, an AP Scholar with
Distinction, and the Outstanding Physicist Student of the Year; and
WHEREAS, Ryan Hughes Watson is very active in science research and
has earned high honors at the LI Science Congress; and
WHEREAS, An exceptional athlete, Ryan Hughes Watson has been the
Captain of the Manhasset Cross Country, Indoor Track and Outdoor Track
teams and has received 12 varsity letters; he has run in three national
championships and five state championships and has been designated as
All Eastern States, All Long Island and All Nassau County for track and
cross country and was the recipient of the Nassau County Coaches
Sportsmanship Award; and
WHEREAS, Ryan Hughes Watson spent the past summer completing a
nine-week internship studying lupus under the mentorship of Dr. Diamond
at the Feinstein Medical Institute as a Summer Research Scholar; and
WHEREAS, After graduating, Ryan Hughes Watson plans to run on both
the cross country and track teams for Williams College; and
WHEREAS, America has achieved her greatest heights of glory through
the dedication, determination and tireless efforts of the outstanding
citizens of this Nation; and
WHEREAS, It is only with the continued diligence and devotion of our
youth, tomorrow's leaders, that America will maintain her glory; and
WHEREAS, The Boy Scouts of America and its members are dedicated to
the development of character and leadership in the youth of this Nation;
and
WHEREAS, The highest achievement of leadership in Scouting, earned
by only five percent of all Boy Scouts, is the distinguished rank of
Eagle Scout; and
WHEREAS, This outstanding young man has been involved in Scouting
for many years, has lived up to Scouting's ideals and has attained all
of the necessary achievements, including completion of a community
service project, which was successfully planned, developed and executed;
and
WHEREAS, Ryan Hughes Watson's project benefitted the Science Museum
of Long Island; he cleared the dense vegetation and weeds along the
museum entrance road to expose the 500-foot stone wall; once completed,
he bagged and carted away truckloads of unwanted debris; 32 Scouts,
adults, friends and family donated many hours of their time to help him
achieve his goal; and
WHEREAS, Ryan Hughes Watson's perseverance in rising through the
ranks to Eagle Scout is a strong indication of his ability to master
difficult tasks; his accomplishment will enable him to emerge as a
leader, fully equipped to meet the challenges of today's complex
society; and
WHEREAS, This new Eagle Scout is a credit to his family, his school,
his community, his State and his Nation, and no doubt his future will be
filled with accomplishments of equal importance; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations, in
recognition of the significance of this meritorious achievement, to
congratulate and honor Ryan Hughes Watson on achieving the rank of Eagle
Scout; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Ryan Hughes Watson.
