COMMENDING the East 26th Street Block Association
upon the occasion of hosting its Love Your Block
event on May 12, 2018

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those organizations and individuals within our
midst who have made significant contributions to the quality of life
therein; and

WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of
certain extraordinary organizations and individuals it wishes to
recognize for their valued contributions to the success and progress of
society and publicly acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the
basic humanity among us all; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend the East
26th Street Block Association upon the occasion of hosting its Love Your
Block event on Saturday, May 12, 2018; and

WHEREAS, Love Your Block (LYB) is a special partnership between NYC
Service and Citizens Committee for New York City which provides a unique
opportunity for residents to transform and beautify their neighborhoods
while leveraging City services; and

WHEREAS, Resident-led volunteer groups, or grantees, receive a grant
to transform a city block; LYB grantees receive project-planning and
community-building assistance, as well as assistance with local media
coverage for the project; and

WHEREAS, Additionally, LYB grantees are able to receive facilitated
access to services provided by the New York City Department of Parks and
Recreation, New York City Department of Transportation, and Department
of Sanitation of New York, to help improve their block; and

WHEREAS, Past LYB grantees have received assistance with City
services, some of which include trash collection, vacant lot cleanup,
graffiti removal, dead tree removal, tree planting, providing woodchip
mulch for gardening projects, repair of and installation of street signs
and street lights, and traffic safety surveys; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals and organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by
all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the East 26th Street Block Association upon the occasion of
hosting its Love Your Block event on May 12, 2018; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the East 26th Street Block Association, Brooklyn, New
York.
