COMMENDING the Carlos Lezama Archives and
Caribbean Cultural Center upon the occasion of
hosting its Sunday Caribbean Jazz Brunch on June 24,
2018

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to commend those
illustrious organizations of the State of New York whose focus and
intent have made a substantial impact on the quality of life in their
communities; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend the Carlos Lezama Archives and Caribbean Cultural Center upon
the occasion of hosting its Sunday Caribbean Jazz Brunch on June 24,
2018, at Marine Park Golf Course, Brooklyn, New York; and

WHEREAS, This auspicious event will benefit the Children's Festival
and Youth Pan Fest; and

WHEREAS, Established in 2005 under the auspices of the University of
the State of New York, the Carlos Lezama Archives and Caribbean Cultural
Center is aptly named after Carlos Lezama, the "godfather" of Brooklyn's
Caribbean Carnival, and is designed to promote and preserve Caribbean
culture and history; and

WHEREAS, Remaining true to its mission, the Carlos Lezama Archives
and Caribbean Cultural Center educates communities regarding Caribbean
heritage via the establishment of an institution devoted to research and
development; and

WHEREAS, Over its distinguished 13-year history, the Carlos Lezama
Archives and Caribbean Cultural Center has demonstrated continuous
service to the residents and communities which it serves; and

WHEREAS, The success of the Carlos Lezama Archives and Caribbean
Cultural Center is in direct correlation to the efforts of its dedicated
staff and volunteers, whose involvement is, and always has been,
characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and
an uncompromising standard of excellence in all endeavors on behalf of
the organization and the community it serves; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals and organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by
all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Carlos Lezama Archives and Caribbean Cultural Center upon
the occasion of hosting its Sunday Caribbean Jazz Brunch on June 24,
2018; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Carlos Lezama Archives and Caribbean Cultural Center.
