COMMENDING Judy Temkin-Jacobson upon the occasion
of her designation for special recognition by the
League of Women Voters of Port Washington-Manhasset
on June 10, 2018
WHEREAS, Within every community of the State of New York there are
certain individuals who, by virtue of their commitment and dedication,
command the respect and admiration of their community for their
exemplary contributions and service on behalf of others; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Judy Temkin-Jacobson upon the occasion of her designation for
special recognition by the League of Women Voters of Port
Washington-Manhasset to be celebrated at its Spring Garden Party and
Benefit on Sunday, June 10, 2018, at the home of Jean-Marie and Steven
Posner in Sands Point, New York; and
WHEREAS, Judy Temkin-Jacobson graduated magna cum laude from Queens
College, where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa; she also studied at
Brown University, Rutgers University and the College of New Jersey; and
WHEREAS, Judy Temkin-Jacobson has been a participant of the League
of Women Voters for more than 50 years, commencing in Highland Park, New
Jersey, where she served in numerous capacities including President; for
the past 10 years, she has been a member of the League of Women Voters
of Port Washington-Manhasset; and
WHEREAS, Currently, Judy Temkin-Jacobson holds the title of the
League's first Vice President, and serves as its Voters Service Chair;
in this capacity, she is in charge of numerous candidates' forums and
related functions; she has arranged, organized, and moderated more than
35 candidates' forums in the Town of North Hempstead and beyond; and
WHEREAS, Judy Temkin-Jacobson also works with the League's committee
which hosts the annual State of the Town of North Hempstead address,
delivered by the Town Supervisor; and
WHEREAS, In addition to her role with the League of Women Voters,
Judy Temkin-Jacobson has been an elementary school teacher for 34 years;
throughout her tenure, she has been the recipient of many awards and
accolades for her exceptional teaching abilities and free after-school
programs she has provided for students; and
WHEREAS, Judy Temkin-Jacobson is also a vital member of the Shelter
Rock Unitarian Universalist Congregation where she develops programs to
provide art activities for children enrolled in Adventures In Learning,
an after-school program funded by the Hagedorn Foundation; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Judy Temkin-Jacobson has been a mentor for
children with special needs at the Munsey Park School in Manhasset for
nine years; and
WHEREAS, For her steadfast and unremitting commitment to her
community and each and every one of her students, Judy Temkin-Jacobson
was inducted into the Womens Role of Honor in 2015; and
WHEREAS, Judy Temkin-Jacobson is married to Dr. Louis Jacobson, and
together, the couple have a large combined family of five children,
seven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild, all of whom have shown
her love and support and rejoice in her many achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the occurrence of such a compassionate
blending of strength, leadership, intellect, and commitment as that
demonstrated by Judy Temkin-Jacobson over a lifetime of sacrifice and
dedication to others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Judy Temkin-Jacobson upon the occasion of her designation for
special recognition by the League of Women Voters of Port
Washington-Manhasset on June 10, 2018; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Judy Temkin-Jacobson.
