HONORING Kelley Cobb upon the occasion of being
inducted into the Rome Sports Hall of Fame on July
29, 2018
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
outstanding athletes who have distinguished themselves through their
exceptional performance, attaining unprecedented success and the highest
level of personal achievement; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Kelley Cobb upon the occasion of being inducted into the Rome Sports
Hall of Fame on Sunday, July 29, 2018, at the Inn at the Beeches, Rome,
New York; and
WHEREAS, Kelley Cobb, the daughter of Don and Cynthia Commerford,
joins her uncle and grandfather to become the third member of her family
to be inducted into the Rome Sports Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, After living in Kentucky, North Carolina and Massachusetts,
Kelley Cobb and her family made it back to Rome, New York in 1981; and
WHEREAS, Kelley Cobb began her illustrious field hockey career as a
four-year starter for Rome Free Academy (RFA) and coach Carla Till; in
this capacity, she was a two-time league first team all-star, MVP and
team captain her senior year; and
WHEREAS, Also an RFA volleyball player, Kelley Cobb was a league
all-star and was named to an all-tournament team; and
WHEREAS, During this time, Kelley Cobb was honored as a Sports
Personality by the Rome Sports Hall of Fame which recognized her
"Pursuit of Excellence"; and
WHEREAS, A member of the 1985 Empire State Games Field Hockey Team,
Kelley Cobb went on to become a four-year starter at Miami of Ohio; she
was a first team MAC league all-star, team captain her senior year, and
twice invited to the National Olympic Development program; and
WHEREAS, In addition to her extraordinary athletic abilities, Kelley
Cobb and her husband founded a very successful printing business in
Charlotte, North Carolina, where she remains an important decision
making part of the business while raising her three children; and
WHEREAS, Active in her community, Kelley Cobb has also served as
President of the more than 2,100 member Junior League of Charlotte, a
philanthropic, issue-oriented and social organization made up of the
most successful women of the Charlotte area; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such outstanding athletic accomplishments are brought to
our attention, they should be recognized by all the citizens of this
great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Kelley Cobb upon the occasion of being inducted into the Rome
Sports Hall of Fame on July 29, 2018; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Kelley Cobb.
