CONGRATULATING the Livingston County Children's
Protective Association upon the occasion of
celebrating its 100th Anniversary

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to recognize
those organizations that enhance the quality and character of life in
the communities across New York State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate the Livingston County Children's Protective Association
upon the occasion of celebrating its 100th Anniversary; and

WHEREAS, In 1918, Judge Lockwood Doty, who was then County Judge and
the father of Mrs. Mary Teal of Geneseo, found an urgent need for a
group of women to assist the one Social Service Worker who had to
oversee 75 different families; during this time, there were 46 children
being supported by county funds; and

WHEREAS, A small group of women organized and called their
organization the Livingston County Children's Protective and Welfare
Association; this group of women called on foster parents and furnished
transportation for the social worker; since then, the organization has
grown and now has approximately 30 active members with most of the time
and money being spent on the foster child, expanding now to 160 foster
children in the county; and

WHEREAS, The Livingston County Children's Protective Association's
purpose is to work for the general well-being of the community by
offering programs for the welfare of children and others needing support
and care through promoting sound and humane public welfare
administration; and

WHEREAS, The Livingston County Children's Protective Association is
composed of private citizens who pledge to give moral and financial
support and to assist with the work of the County Social Services
Department in going beyond the basic necessities of life; and

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly
recognize those organizations that have achieved notable success in
their service to the residents and communities of this great Empire
State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the Livingston County Children's Protective Association
upon the occasion of celebrating its 100th Anniversary; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Livingston County Children's Protective Association.
