HONORING Sister Patricia Lynch, RSM upon the
occasion of her designation as recipient of the Hope
and Hospitality Award by Circles of Mercy on June
13, 2018
WHEREAS, The character and richness of religious and community life
in this noble Empire State are nourished and fulfilled through the
faithful concern and selfless devotion of those who commit their
energies and purpose to the ministry of others; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to bring full
recognition and just tribute to individuals who distinguish themselves
and the ministry through their unremitting commitment and preeminence of
service; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Sister
Patricia Lynch, RSM upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the Hope and Hospitality Award by the Circles of Mercy, to be celebrated
at its Annual Gala "A Taste of Mercy" on Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at
the Shaker Ridge Country Club in Loudonville, New York; and
WHEREAS, Circles of Mercy, sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy
Northeast Community, is dedicated to improving the quality of life in
the community by working to end the cycle of poverty, especially among
women and women with children; and
WHEREAS, This vital organization honors the dignity of each person
by offering hospitality and providing services, compassion, stewardship,
leadership and collaboration, which is performed in an effort to instill
hope and empower individuals to reach their full potential; and
WHEREAS, Established in 2004, the Hope and Hospitality Award is
presented annually to someone in the local community who exemplifies the
charism of the Sisters of Mercy; the recipient lives a merciful life,
demonstrated by the sharing of their time, talent and treasure, in
support of the Sisters of Mercy and their sponsored ministry, Circles of
Mercy; and
WHEREAS, Sister Patricia Lynch entered the convent of the Sisters of
Mercy in September of 1963; three years later, she began her 52-year
career in education as a 2nd grade teacher with Christ the King School;
for the next 10 years, she served as a 2nd grade teacher for St. Mary's
Clinton Heights, and then Vincentian Grade School; and
WHEREAS, In 1978, Sister Patricia Lynch moved from the classroom
into administration; for 23 years she held the title of Principal for
St. Mary's Clinton Heights; for another year, she was the Principal for
St. Jude the Apostle; since 2002, she has served as the Principal of
Blessed Sacrament School, the position from which she will officially
retire on June 30, 2018; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished woman of God has always given
enlightenment, guidance and wisdom to the many entrusted to her care and
has administered abundantly and unstintingly to the spiritual and
corporal needs of all; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when a person
of such noble aims and accomplishments is brought to our attention it is
appropriate to publicly and jubilantly proclaim and commend that
individual for the edification of others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Sister Patricia Lynch, RSM upon the occasion of her designation as
recipient of the Hope and Hospitality Award by Circles of Mercy on June
13, 2018; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Sister Patricia Lynch, RSM.
