HONORING Linda Eagan upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the 2018 Amelia Earhart
Award by the Zonta Club of Oswego

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Linda Eagan upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
2018 Amelia Earhart Woman of Achievement Award by the Zonta Club of
Oswego; and

WHEREAS, She will receive her award at a dinner to be held at the
Lake Ontario Event and Conference Center in Oswego on June 19, 2018; and

WHEREAS, The Zonta Club is an international organization of
professional women who work to advance the status of women through
service and advocacy; and

WHEREAS, The Zonta Club of Oswego has presented its Amelia Earhart
Woman of Achievement Award annually since 1985, to honor a woman whose
hard work and dedication has made a difference in the lives of families
in Oswego County and who serves as a role model for young women; and

WHEREAS, The award is named for Amelia Earhart, an aviator and
prominent figure in Zonta International, who once said, "The most
difficult thing is the decision to act, the rest is merely tenacity";
and

WHEREAS, Linda Eagan is the 2018 recipient of the Amelia Earhart
Woman of Achievement Award for not only making the decision to act, but
for her tenacity in breaking down barriers and working for others who
face obstacles in their lives; and

WHEREAS, She has worked tirelessly for the residents of Oswego
County, and was instrumental for bringing to fruition Fulton Block
Builders, a program which focuses on the strengths of neighborhoods and
brings people together to build community and civic pride; and

WHEREAS, Through her work with the Oswego County Department of
Health, Linda Eagan has been actively involved in promoting nutrition
education in elementary schools throughout the county; and

WHEREAS, Early in her career, Linda Eagan worked as a Teen Health
Issues educator and has made it her goal to reduce teen pregnancy and
premature parenthood; and

WHEREAS, Linda Eagan's professional affiliations are many and
include: past member of the New York State Council on Adolescent

Pregnancy, Healthy Teen Network and Family Planning Advocates, and
current Vice-President of the Oswego City/County Youth Bureau Board of
Directors, as well as President of the Weston T. Hyde Educational
Foundation whose purpose is to create new, and enhance existing,
educational opportunities for Oswego County residents; and

WHEREAS, The recipient of numerous awards and accolades, Linda Eagan
was recognized with the 2016-17 Community Service Award from the Fulton
Sunrise Rotary, for her devotion to her community; and the 2017 Greater
Oswego/Fulton Chamber of Commerce Positive Community Momentum Award; and

WHEREAS, It has always been the objective of this Legislative Body
to honor and support those individuals who have displayed their
commitment to the betterment of their communities, and it is the intent
of this Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records, this tribute to
Linda Eagan, that future generations may know and appreciate her
admirable character, her many benevolent deeds, and the respect and
esteem in which she is held by her peers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Linda Eagan upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the 2018 Amelia Earhart Woman of Achievement Award by the Zonta Club of
Oswego; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Linda Eagan.
