HONORING Diante Thomas upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the 2018 Youth of the
Year Award by the Boys & Girls Club of Albany

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those young people within the great Empire State who have
made strong contributions to their communities and who serve as role
models for their peers; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Diante Thomas upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
2018 Youth of the Year Award by the Boys & Girls Club of Albany; and

WHEREAS, The Boys & Girls Club's highest honor, the Youth of the
Year Award, recognizes outstanding contributions to a club member's
family, school, and overall community, as well as their perseverance in
overcoming personal challenges and obstacles; these honorees are shining
examples and living proof that great futures start at Boys & Girls
Clubs; and

WHEREAS, During a difficult time in his life, Diante Thomas became a
member of the Boys & Girls Club of Albany, where he improved his grades
and his school attendance with the help of the caring staff; and

WHEREAS, Diante Thomas took the initiative to apply for employment
with the Club and will start working in the summer at its Lawson's Lake
Camp; and

WHEREAS, Ever since he was a young boy, Diante Thomas has dreamed of
playing college basketball; he served as captain of the Club's
basketball team and took his role very seriously; he has continuously
motivated his teammates to succeed and rooted for them when they were
struggling; and

WHEREAS, Diante Thomas continues to work on raising his grades
through tutoring and hopes to attend Davidson College where he would
like to play basketball and major in physical education with the goal of
becoming a basketball coach; and

WHEREAS, Diante Thomas truly understands that having a healthy
lifestyle is his key to success in both the classroom and on the
basketball court; and

WHEREAS, Since the first day he walked through the doors of the
Albany Boys & Girls Club, Diante Thomas has thought about ways to better
represent himself and his Club; through this vital organization, he has
realized "Nothing is truly definite until it's definite"; and

WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose,
Diante Thomas now stands honorably, with just pride in his
accomplishments and in eager anticipation of future challenges,

understanding and appreciating the caring counsel and support provided
by his teachers, coaches and loved ones; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to honor the
youth of today, and leaders of tomorrow, whose character and
achievements best exemplify the ideals and values cherished by this
great State and Nation; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Diante Thomas upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the 2018 Youth of the Year Award by the Albany Boys & Girls Club; and be
it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Diante Thomas.
