CONGRATULATING Erika Straub upon the occasion of
becoming a member of the 1,000 point club, one of
high school basketball's most exclusive groups
WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be
achieved only through strenuous practice, team play and team spirit,
nurtured by dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical
development of the young people of this State, preparing them for the
future by instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a
standard of healthy living, imparting a desire for success and
developing a sense of fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate Erika
Straub upon the occasion of becoming a member of the 1,000 point club,
one of high school basketball's most exclusive groups; and
WHEREAS, A senior guard on the S.S. Seward Institute's Girls Varsity
Basketball Team in Florida, New York, Erika Straub, made her 1,000th
point during a game on January 29, 2018; this remarkable athlete ended
her high school basketball career with 1,120 points; and
WHEREAS, The athletic talent displayed by Erika Straub is due in
great part to the efforts of Coach Joe DiMattina, a skilled and
inspirational tutor, respected for his ability to develop potential into
excellence; and
WHEREAS, Erika Straub's performance throughout the season has been
outstanding and she has been loyally and enthusiastically supported by
family, fans, friends and the community at large; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commend and
pay tribute to those young people who, by achieving outstanding success
in athletic competition, have inspired and brought pride to our majestic
Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose, this
exemplary athlete now stands honorably, with just pride in her
accomplishments and in eager anticipation of future challenges,
understanding and appreciating the caring counsel and support provided
by her coaches, teachers, and parents; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Erika Straub upon the occasion of becoming a member of the
1,000 point club, one of high school basketball's most exclusive groups;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Erika Straub and Coach Joe DiMattina.
