HONORING Patrick R. Colabella upon the occasion of
his designation as recipient of the 2018 Civic Award
by the Bay Ridge Community Council on June 14, 2018

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Patrick R. Colabella upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of the 2018 Civic Award by the Bay Ridge Community Council, to be
celebrated at its 67th Annual Dinner Dance on Thursday, June 14, 2018,
at Bay Ridge Manor, Brooklyn, New York; and

WHEREAS, Born in Brooklyn, New York, Patrick R. Colabella attended
St. Bernadette Grammar School and Xaverian High School; he received his
Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from St. John's University in
1971, and obtained his Master's degree in Taxation from Pace University
in 1980; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, he went on to successfully pursue his
doctorate in Educational Leadership in 2006; and

WHEREAS, Patrick R. Colabella began his illustrious career in
accounting with the international firm of Deloitte & Touche and later
served as Director of Taxes for three years for the Equitable Life
Holding Company; and

WHEREAS, In 1987, Patrick R. Colabella joined the faculty of St.
John's University, where he currently serves in the esteemed position of
Associate Professor; in addition, he served as Faculty Advisor for the
Beta Alpha Psi National Honor Society for 19 years; and

WHEREAS, A Senior Partner of the Colabella & Company LLP, Patrick R.
Colabella has served in various capacities as the Financial Advisor for
the Bay Ridge Bensonhurst Preservation and Beautification Alliance, the
86th Street BID, and the Sunset Park BID; and

WHEREAS, This extraordinary man has published numerous papers,
articles and OpEDs in newspapers and professional and academic journals,
among them The American Accounting Association, Hill in Washington DC
and locally in the Home Reporter; he also authored a book, How to Get
Rid of Socialism and solve the Fiscal Ills of the United States; and

WHEREAS, A true asset to his profession, Patrick R. Colabella has
served as a peer reviewer for the Peer Review Quality Control Program of
the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and as a
Committee Chair of the New York State Society of CPAs; and

WHEREAS, Patrick R. Colabella has served on several corporate boards
and community service organizations, some of which include the Council
of Neighborhood Organizations and the New Horizons Adult Education
Program; he also serves on a pro bono basis for Illuminart Productions,
the Bay Ridge Mental Health Council, the Kassenbrock Brothers Memorial
Scholarship Fund and the Bay Ridge Community Council; and

WHEREAS, Patrick R. Colabella is currently the Chairman and Founder
of the Global Institute for Taxation, a scholarly research institute
based at St. John's University which advises government and business on
issues pertaining to fundamental tax reform; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Patrick R. Colabella has
displayed throughout his life; and

WHEREAS, It has always been the objective of this Legislative Body
to honor and support those individuals who have displayed their
commitment to the betterment of their communities, and it is the intent
of this Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records, this tribute to
Patrick R. Colabella, that future generations may know and appreciate
his admirable character, his many benevolent deeds, and the respect and
esteem in which he is held by his peers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Patrick R. Colabella upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of the 2018 Civic Award by the Bay Ridge Community Council on
June 14, 2018; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Patrick R. Colabella.
