Senate Resolution No. 5786

CONGRATULATING scholar-athlete Ama Boham upon the
occasion of capturing the NYSPHSAA Girls Track and
Field Hurdles Championship on June 9, 2018
WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be
achieved only through strenuous practice, team play and team spirit,
nurtured by dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical
development of the young people of this State, preparing them for the
future by instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a
standard of healthy living, imparting a desire for success and
developing a sense of fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, A standout hurdles runner for the Ichabod Crane Riders, Ama
Boham earned her second straight New York State Championship in the 100
meter hurdles on Saturday, June 9, 2018, and did so by breaking her own
school record with a blistering 14.69 second time; and
WHEREAS, Last year, Ama Boham became the first female track athlete
in Ichabod Crane history to win a championship, and on Saturday, she
became the only Rider to ever win two championships; and
WHEREAS, Ama Boham's overall record is outstanding, she placed first
in every hurdles race she ran in this year except for two races, and was
both the Colonial Council Champion and the Sectional Champion in the
same event; she was loyally and enthusiastically supported by family,
fans, friends and the community at large; and
WHEREAS, The team-captain, Ama Boham is also a scholar-athlete with
a 99 average, leading the girls track team to the highest average of any
team at Ichabod Crane High School; in addition, she is the three-time
MVP of the girls track team; and
WHEREAS, Athletically and academically, Ama Boham has proven herself
to be an unbeatable combination of talents, reflecting favorably on her
school; and
WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride
and accomplishment, and Ama Boham has clearly made a contribution to the
spirit of excellence which is a tradition of her school; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate scholar-athlete Ama Boham upon the occasion of capturing
the NYSPHSAA Girls Track and Field Hurdles Championship on June 9, 2018;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Ama Boham.
