COMMEMORATING the 50th Anniversary of Chautauqua
County Rural Ministry, Inc.

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to honor and
commemorate the proud and distinguished histories of the people,
communities and organizations which comprise the noble body of this
great Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Chautauqua County Rural Ministry,
Inc.; and

WHEREAS, Chautauqua County Rural Ministry, Inc. provides for the
needs of, and advocates for the homeless and the poor so they may
increasingly gain control of their lives; this interfaith,
non-denominational human service agency is based on the belief that
every person is deserving of adequate food, clothing, shelter, and work
opportunity in order to acquire the basic necessities; its purpose is to
encourage self-determination and self-development, empowering people to
become active, contributing members of society; and

WHEREAS, Since its early days, Chautauqua County Rural Ministry,
Inc. was a group of concerned citizens who were organized to access and
meet the needs of migrant families in the county; in 1967, the
organization was incorporated as Southwestern Area Migrant Committee of
Chautauqua and Cattaraugus Counties (SWAMC); in 1973, their name was
changed to Chautauqua County Rural Ministry; and

WHEREAS, For over six decades, Chautauqua County Rural Ministry,
Inc. has been serving the community in numerous ways, such as:
establishing a hotline for battered women; opening a garment gallery and
emergency food pantry; initiating a rape crisis counseling service;
beginning summer youth camps; spearheading a homeless project and many
other programs that have grown and expanded their service to the
community's many needs; Chautauqua County Rural Ministry, Inc. is truly
an organization that takes care and looks after one another; and

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly
recognize and honor milestones in the history of communities both large
and small in this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Chautauqua County Rural Ministry,
Inc.; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Chautauqua County Rural Ministry, Inc.
