HONORING John F. Probeck, Jr. posthumously upon
the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by Albany County at its Honor A Veteran
Ceremony on October 3, 2016
WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of New York,
who have served so valiantly and honorably in wars in which this
country's freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace
in peace-time, deserve a special salute; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commend those
who have served in times of active conflict, as well as those who have
served in times of peace; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
John F. Probeck, Jr. posthumously upon the occasion of his designation
for special recognition by Albany County at its Honor A Veteran Ceremony
on Monday, October 3, 2016, at the American Legion Joseph E. Zaloga Post
No. 1520, Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, In June of 1993, a committee was formed by the Albany
County Veterans Bureau known as the Albany County Honor-A-Veteran
Committee to honor deceased Albany County Veterans who have served their
country in time of conflict; the Honor A Veteran Program takes place
monthly on the first Monday of each month; and
WHEREAS, For his courageous and dedicated service to his country,
John F. Probeck, Jr. will be recognized at this year's October Honor A
Veteran Ceremony; and
WHEREAS, Born on May 24, 1933, in Troy, New York, to John F. and
Anna Kowansky Probeck, John F. Probeck, Jr. proudly served his country
as a member of the United States Army in the 76th Antiaircraft Artillery
Battalion from 1953-1955; and
WHEREAS, In recognition of his meritorious service in the Korean
War, Private First Class John F. Probeck, Jr. was the recipient of
numerous medals which include National Defense Service Medal, United
Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal; and
WHEREAS, Upon the completion of his military service, John F.
Probeck, Jr. earned a degree in Drafting from Hudson Valley Community
College, Troy, New York; he then spent his career working for Playtex
International, formerly Tek Hughes, in Watervliet, New York, retiring in
1997 after 35 years of distinguished service as a Draftsman; and
WHEREAS, John F. Probeck, Jr. served as a member of numerous
organizations in his community, including member and past Commander of
Maplewood American Legion Post No. 1615 and former Commander of the
Albany County American Legion from 1991-1992; and
WHEREAS, In addition, John F. Probeck, Jr. was a lifelong member of
the Maplewood School Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and held the
position of President as well as serving as a member of the Watervliet
High Dad's Club; he also was an avid fan of the Watervliet Cannoneers;
and
WHEREAS, With him throughout were his wife of 51 years, Joyce A.
(Chartrand) Probeck, their two children, Terri Rosen and John, and three
grandchildren, Benjamin, Maya and Everett, all of whom felt privileged
to be a part of his life and rejoiced in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, John F. Probeck, Jr. died on January 14, 2010, at the age
of 76; and
WHEREAS, Residents of this great State must never forget the courage
with which these men and women served their country, and must recognize
that no greater debt is owed than that owed to those who gave their
lives for their beloved Nation and to those who continue to be missing
in action; and
WHEREAS, Having exhibited their patriotism both at home and abroad,
these men and women demonstrated their love for their country and merit
forevermore, the highest respect of their State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, Our Nation's Veterans deserve to be recognized, commended
and thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and
for their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor John F. Probeck, Jr. posthumously upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition by Albany County at its Honor A
Veteran Ceremony on October 3, 2016; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Joyce A. Probeck.
