COMMENDING the 79th Precinct Community Council
upon the occasion of hosting its Dinner Dance on
June 22, 2018

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those distinguished officers and citizens who would devote
themselves to public service, demonstrating great courage and diligence
in providing for the care and welfare of the citizens of their
communities and this great Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend the 79th Precinct Community Council upon the occasion of hosting
its Dinner Dance on Friday, June 22, 2018, at the United Grand Chapter,
Brooklyn, New York; and

WHEREAS, The New York City Police Department Community Councils were
established in 1943; today, there are 86 of them located throughout the
five boroughs; and

WHEREAS, The New York City Police Department Community Councils play
an integral role by serving as a conduit of information between the
police and community residents and leaders, clergy, business owners and
stakeholders by raising awareness and ensuring the needs of the
community are reported and addressed; and

WHEREAS, Community Councils are comprised of volunteers who give of
their time and effort and who are committed to the betterment of their
communities; volunteerism is truly a core component in reinforcing the
social fabric in our communities; and

WHEREAS, The Community Council establishes and maintains working
partnerships between the New York City Police Department and community
members, and strives to improve public safety, quality of life and
police-community relations throughout New York City; these working
partnerships enable the Department in its crime-fighting strategies,
builds mutual trust and empowers community members as stakeholders; and

WHEREAS, The 79th Precinct Community Council was established over 70
years ago to serve as the liasion between the community and the NYPD;
and

WHEREAS, Dr. Kim Best has served the 79th Precinct Community Council
for 29 years, two years as the Greivance Chair, six years as Vice
President, and 21 years as President; and

WHEREAS, Within every community of the State of New York there are
certain individuals who, by virtue of their commitment and dedication,
command the respect and admiration of their community for their
exemplary contributions and service on behalf of others; and

WHEREAS, This year's distinguished honorees include: Wendy McLean,
CEO, Denim Kids; Wayne Devonish, Chairman, 500 Men; Lenny Green, WBLS

Radio, Favorite Radio Broadcaster; Dudley Rowe, Rowe's Restaurant;
Deoram Surujbhan, CEO, Fresh Health Emporium; Noah Katz, CEO, Foodtown
Stores; Judge Robin Sheares, Civil/Supreme Court; Seth Hill, CEO, Hakeem
Maintenance Services; Rotimi Akinnuoye, Bed Vyne Wines; Chief Jeffrey
Maddrey, Chief Brooklyn North; Auxiliary Inspector Dr. Andrew Coleman,
Brooklyn North; Di Charles Minch, 79th Precinct, Commanding Officer; and
Acumen Capital Partners LLC; and

WHEREAS, This year's award recipients include: Bernice Green, CEO,
Our Time Press, Outstanding Media Award; Barbara Biggs-Glover, VP 79th
Precinct CC, President Award; PO Michelle McLeod, 79th Precinct, Cop of
the Year; and Sergeant Charles Peifer, 79th Precinct, Cop of the Year;
and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those
dedicated public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the
preservation of order and the protection of others are worthy and due
full praise for their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be
it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the 79th Precinct Community Council upon the occasion of hosting
its Dinner Dance on June 22, 2018; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the 79th Precinct Community Council and the
aforementioned honorees.
