Senate Resolution No. 5814

COMMENDING Elwyn Roll upon the occasion of his
retirement after nearly 40 years of distinguished
service to the Pioneer Central School District of
Yorkshire, New York
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor and
recognize those dedicated professionals, who strive to enhance the
quality of education for our students, and whose character,
accomplishments and community contributions inspire all citizens of this
great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Elwyn Roll upon the occasion of his retirement after nearly 40
years of distinguished service to the Pioneer Central School District;
and
WHEREAS, After graduating from SUNY Potsdam with a degree in music,
Elwyn Roll travelled the country, working various theater jobs; he then
returned to his hometown of Arcade, New York, where he met and married
the former Debbie Lynn Miller in 1980; and
WHEREAS, Together, Elwyn and his wife raised two children, Megan and
the late Matthew; today, they are the loving grandparents of two
grandsons, Lleyton and Landry; and
WHEREAS, Elwyn Roll began his long and distinguished career as a
temporary music teacher in the Pioneer Central School District; in 1986,
he was hired as a full-time kindergarten teacher at Arcade Elementary,
and two years later, he assumed the title of Chair of the kindergarten
grade level; and
WHEREAS, In 1996, Elwyn Roll became the music teacher for Arcade
Elementary, and then transferred to Pioneer Senior High School where he
served as the choral director, and one of the school's music teachers,
the position from which he will officially retire in June of 2018; and
WHEREAS, From 2003-2018, Elwyn Roll directed the annual Senior Play
productions, and was the faculty advisor for the Theater Club; he also
oversaw the recent additions and renovation of Pioneer Senior High
School's music suite, as well as the installation and yearly celebration
of the Pioneer Music Wall of Fame Ceremony; and
WHEREAS, With all of his accomplishments, Elwyn Roll is most proud
of his role as director of the high school's musicals, a title he
proudly held for 20 years; under his luminous direction, the musicals
brought the school's community together in a grand and unifying way; and
WHEREAS, After nearly four decades of service as a beloved educator,
Elwyn Roll will be remembered for his love of music, which he shared so
freely with any student, no matter their background or ability; he truly
touched the lives of countless students and community members; and
WHEREAS, In his much deserved retirement, Elwyn Roll is looking
forward to spending more time with his wife and his grandchildren, and
watching all the seeds he has planted over the years continue to
blossom; and
WHEREAS, The Yorkshire community is indeed fortunate and blessed to
have had such a dedicated and respected educator; his wisdom and
contributions reached into every classroom, truly making a difference in
the lives of those lucky enough to have worked with him; and
WHEREAS, A significant contributor to education in New York State,
Elwyn Roll has continually demonstrated an impressive dedication, an
unparalleled devotion and an unremitting enthusiasm for the quality of
the educational programs and opportunities offered at the Pioneer
Central School District for the benefit of its faculty and students, as
well as for the entire community; and
WHEREAS, In completing his service as a teacher, Elwyn Roll leaves
behind more than mere bricks and mortar; he leaves behind a legacy to
the students of the Pioneer Central School District and to the residents
of the Yorkshire community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Elwyn Roll upon the occasion of his retirement after nearly 40
years of distinguished service to the Pioneer Central School District of
Yorkshire, New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Elwyn Roll.
