RECOGNIZING the two-year Anniversary of the
Metro-North Railroad Accident in Valhalla, New York
WHEREAS, The State of New York is deeply saddened by tragic events
which result in the loss of lives; and
WHEREAS, February 3, 2017, marks the two-year Anniversary of the
tragic Metro-North Railroad accident at the crossing in Valhalla, New
York; and
WHEREAS, On the evening of February 3, 2015, a commuter train on the
Metro-North Railroad's Harlem line struck a passenger car, an SUV stuck
inside the crossing gate at the grade crossing near Valhalla, New York,
between the Valhalla and Mount Pleasant stations; and
WHEREAS, The driver of the SUV and five passengers on the train were
killed in the accident; and
WHEREAS, Fifteen others were injured, including seven in very
serious condition; and
WHEREAS, The accident was the deadliest in Metro-North's history;
and
WHEREAS, Those lost in the accident were the driver of the SUV,
Ellen Schaeffer Brody, 49; Robert Dirks, 36; Walter Liedtke, 69; Joseph
Nadol, 42; Aditya Tomar, 41; and Eric Vandercar, 53; now therefore be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
recognize the two-year Anniversary of the Metro-North Railroad accident;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the accident survivors.
