HONORING Town of Tonawanda Police Officer Mark
Muscoreil upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of the 2018 Law & Order Award by the Erie
County American Legion

WHEREAS, The quality and sanctity of community life are cherished
values, worthy of safeguarding, and this Legislative Body is moved to
honor those individuals who serve to preserve and protect such values,
lauding particularly their unwavering courage and dedication in the
daily performance of their duties; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize the
caring concern and heroic acts of those exemplary police officers who
take prompt and appropriate action in emergency situations, and in doing
so, help others to avert life-threatening danger; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Town of Tonawanda Police Officer Mark Muscoreil upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the 2018 Law & Order Award by the Erie
County American Legion; and

WHEREAS, On the evening of October 23, 2017, Officer Mark Muscoreil
responded to a house fire on Glensdale Drive in the Town of Tonawanda,
and found the residence fully engulfed in flames; and

WHEREAS, Without proper fire safety gear and with no regard for his
own safety, Officer Mark Muscoreil used his SWAT training to make forced
entry into the structure; and

WHEREAS, Due to heavy smoke, Officer Mark Muscoreil was unable to
rescue a woman on the second floor, but remained inside the burning
building to assist the Brighton Fire Chief with the rescue of the woman;
and

WHEREAS, Officer Mark Muscoreil's courageous actions that day also
assisted in the rescue of an 80-year old veteran who was rescued and
transported to a local hospital; and

WHEREAS, In addition to this most courageous act, Officer Mark
Muscoreil is active in his community and takes a week of vacation each
year to volunteer as a coach at the Jim Kelly Football Camp; and

WHEREAS, Through his spontaneous and heroic actions, Officer Mark
Muscoreil demonstrated his character and compassion for the welfare of
others; personifying, by virtue of his actions, the collective concern
of ordinary citizens across the community of the State of New York, who
are readily willing to respond when others are in need of help; now,
therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Town of Tonawanda Police Officer Mark Muscoreil upon the occasion

of his designation as recipient of the 2018 Law & Order Award by the
Erie County American Legion; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Officer Mark Muscoreil.
