CONGRATULATING Michael Gabriel upon the occasion
of capturing the 2018 Outdoor NYSPHSAA Boys
Championship in the discus throw on June 8, 2018

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those young people within the State of New York who, by
achieving outstanding success in athletic competition, have inspired and
brought pride to their school and community; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Michael Gabriel upon the occasion of capturing the 2018
Outdoor NYSPHSAA Boys Championship in the discus throw on Friday, June
8, 2018, at Cicero-North Syracuse High School in North Syracuse, New
York; and

WHEREAS, A standout discus thrower for the Greenwich Witches,
Michael Gabriel captured the state championship at the NYSPHSAA Track
and Field meet on Friday, June 8, 2018, at Cicero-North Syracuse High
School in North Syracuse, New York; and

WHEREAS, Michael Gabriel won the Division II Discus Throw
Championship with an incredible throw of 150 feet, 10 inches; three of
his six throws were farther than 150 feet and he only fouled once; and

WHEREAS, In addition to his monumental win, Michael Gabriel finished
fourth in the Division II shot put event with a throw of 53-7 ยข feet;
entering the Federation part of the state meet, he was seeded sixth
among all public school throwers in the shot put and seventh in the
discus; and

WHEREAS, During the weekend of June 16, 2018, Michael Gabriel will
compete in the hammer throw event at the New Balance Nationals Outdoor
Championships; and

WHEREAS, The athletic talent displayed by Michael Gabriel is due in
great part to the efforts of Coach Pat Morris, a skilled and
inspirational tutor, respected for his ability to develop potential into
excellence; and

WHEREAS, Michael Gabriel's overall record is outstanding; he was
loyally and enthusiastically supported by family, fans, friends and the
community at large; and

WHEREAS, Athletically and academically, Michael Gabriel has proven
himself to be an unbeatable combination of talents, reflecting favorably
on his school; and

WHEREAS, Coach Pat Morris has done a superb job in guiding, molding
and inspiring Michael Gabriel towards his goals; and

WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride
and accomplishment, and Coach Pat Morris and Michael Gabriel have

clearly made a contribution to the spirit of excellence which is a
tradition of their school; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Michael Gabriel upon the occasion of capturing the 2018
Outdoor NYSPHSAA Boys Championship in the discus throw on June 8, 2018;
and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Michael Gabriel and Coach Pat Morris.
