COMMENDING Fawaz Odesanya upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Next Generation
Community Leader Award by the Cypress Hills Local
Development Corporation

WHEREAS, Service to community and country is the foundation of our
society, and the contributions and future efforts of those in service to
them are a vital part of, and valuable asset to, the fabric of our
communities; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Fawaz
Odesanya upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Next
Generation Community Leader Award by the Cypress Hills Local Development
Corporation to be observed at its Annual Celebration of Community
Progress event on Thursday, February 16, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Fawaz Odesanya has been a participant in Future of Tomorrow
for two years and has been instrumental in bringing a restorative and
positive school culture to the Franklin K. Lane campus and a part of the
Urban Youth Collaborative Campaign to influence school policy throughout
the city; and

WHEREAS, Over the past two years, Fawaz Odesanya has facilitated
Future of Tomorrow meetings, spoke on a panel for National Public
Education Support Fund, and met with principals to discuss the
importance and student perspective on restorative practices; and

WHEREAS, Adapting and learning about restorative practices, Fawaz
Odesanya recruited his peers to participate in Future of Tomorrow,
supported by participants; and

WHEREAS, Due to the advocacy and persistence of Fawaz Odesanya, and
fellow Future of Tomorrow members, an official advisory class in the
Academy for Innovative Technology High School at the Franklin K. Lane
campus has been created to train young people in peer mediation and
restorative practices; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Fawaz Odesanya upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of the Next Generation Community Leader Award by the Cypress Hills Local
Development Corporation; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Fawaz Odesanya.
