HONORING Charles Lennon upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the 2017 Irishman of the
Year Award by the Knights of Equity

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body, in keeping with
its time-honored traditions, to recognize and pay tribute to those
individuals and organizations which foster ethnic pride and enhance the
profile of cultural diversity which strengthens the fabric of the
communities of New York State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Charles Lennon upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
2017 Irishman of the Year Award by the Knights of Equity to be
celebrated at the 169th Annual Friendly Sons of St. Patrick Dinner on
Saturday, March 4, 2017, at the Buffalo Irish Center; and

WHEREAS, Born and raised in Buffalo, New York, Charles Lennon
valiantly served his country as a member of the United States Army,
during which time he was stationed in Japan; and

WHEREAS, Charles Lennon married Margaret M. Hafner in 1951, and
together they raised four beautiful children, Dennis Patrick, the late
Colleen Ann, Kathleen Mary and Kevin Brian; and

WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to his
community, Charles Lennon joined St. Leo's Parish in 1960, where he
continues to be an active parishioner; he has volunteered during its
Catholic Charities Drive, and has served as a member of the Holy Name,
Servants of Mary, and Young at Heart organizations; and

WHEREAS, A member of the Tonawanda Irish American Club since 1979,
Charles Lennon and his wife were the proud recipients of the prestigious
Eric Raine Award; and

WHEREAS, In 1985, Charles Lennon joined the Knights of Equity, where
he has held elected positions in the 1st and 3rd degree, and was later
inducted into the 4th degree; in addition, he is actively involved in
the Knights of Columbus Fr. Justin Post where he has also attained 4th
degree designation; and

WHEREAS, A true asset to society, Charles Lennon served as a strong
supporter of the Belfast Summer Relief Program; and

WHEREAS, Charles Lennon has personified the spirit of volunteerism,
demonstrating a gift for leadership, a devotion to family, a commitment
to his Irish heritage, and a determination to make his community a
better place in which to live; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it


RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Charles Lennon upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of the 2017 Irishman of the Year Award by the Knights of Equity; and be
it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Charles Lennon.
