COMMENDING Ted's Hot Dogs of Buffalo, New York,
upon the occasion of celebrating its 90th
Anniversary
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize
those small businesses within the State of New York which contribute to
the economic health and vitality of the communities they serve; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Ted's Hot Dogs of Buffalo, New York, upon the occasion of
celebrating its 90th Anniversary; and
WHEREAS, A Western New York tradition, Ted's Hot Dogs started with
humble beginnings when Greek immigrant, Spiro T. "Ted" Liaros began
selling hot dogs out of a shack near the Peace Bridge in Buffalo; and
WHEREAS, As business blossomed, Ted Liaros opened up his first hot
dog stand at the foot of Massachusetts Avenue under the newly
constructed Peace Bridge; due to the business' outstanding popularity,
he was able to open a second location on Sheridan Drive in the Town of
Tonawanda, which remains a part of the Ted's family today; and
WHEREAS, Through the years, Ted's Hot Dogs added new items to the
menu to complement the charcoal broiled hot dogs, handmade onion rings
and real milkshakes as Western New Yorkers' love affair with the
business grew; and
WHEREAS, While several hot dog stands sprang up in the area, only
one captured the hearts and satisfied the appetites of local diners;
over the last 90 years, Ted's Hot Dogs has become a tradition for the
residents and all who visit Western New York, one that will continue for
generations to come; and
WHEREAS, Today, Ted's Hot Dogs has become family owned and operated
and has grown to nine locations across Western New York, a Charcoal
Chariot Food Truck and one location in Tempe, Arizona; his family
continues the principles set in 1927 by the founder, Ted Liaros, serving
the highest quality food, cooked to order, in a clean and friendly
atmosphere; and
WHEREAS, Small businesses such as Ted's Hot Dogs exert a strong,
positive influence on the communities they serve and are a crucial
element in the economy of New York State; and
WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body
acknowledges this exceptional small business and its contributions to
the local and State economies, fully confident that it will continue to
enjoy the sparkling successes it has experienced thus far; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Ted's Hot Dogs upon the occasion of celebrating its 90th
Anniversary; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Ted's Hot Dogs.
