COMMEMORATING the 75th Anniversary of Boy Scout
Troop 27, Newburgh, New York, on June 3, 2017
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those organizations that are devoted to instilling in
youth the values of community service and civic responsibility; and
WHEREAS, Boy Scouts of America (BSA) and its members are dedicated
to the development of character and leadership in the youth of this
Nation; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 75th Anniversary of Boy Scout Troop 27, Newburgh, New
York, to be celebrated at a Diamond Jubilee on Saturday, June 3, 2017,
at the Cronomer Valley Fire Department in Newburgh; and
WHEREAS, Since its inception in 1910, the Boy Scouts of America has
provided boys and young men the opportunities to learn skills and to
take part in adventures; a Scout learns to camp and hike, and how to
live in the outdoors; a Scout also learns about the world around us and
studies citizenship in the community, in the Nation, and in the world;
and
WHEREAS, In addition, scouting gives a boy the experiences and
responsibilities to help him mature as a strong and confident adult;
scouting is a doorway to lifelong friendships; and
WHEREAS, At their meetings on Wednesdays, the scouts are taught
survival skills, work on badges, learn how to administer first aid, and
how to pack and prepare for camping trips, as well as maintain their
equipment all while having fun; and
WHEREAS, Members of Troop 27 go camping 11 months out of each year,
and attend a weeklong summer camp; this March, the scouts will backpack
through Harriman State Park; and
WHEREAS, Under the luminous leadership of Scoutmaster, Ed Romero,
the Troop has been extremely active in the community by providing many
Eagle and community service projects; currently, five scouts are
preparing to become Eagle Scouts; and
WHEREAS, Since 1942, the young men of Boy Scout Troop 27 have been
helping its community through many generations, through good times and
tough times, through war times and peace times; these remarkable young
men clean streets, restore old cemeteries, build benches and clear brush
at its local parks, and many other community beautification projects;
and
WHEREAS, The Troop also donates supplies to both the American Legion
Food Pantry and the Castle Point Wounded Veteran Food Pantry; and
WHEREAS, Sponsored by the American Legion Post 1420, Boy Scout Troop
27 has developed a proud history, and has maintained the traditional
values of Scouting for the last 75 years; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to add its commendation and
congratulations on this notable occasion, recognizing the exemplary
efforts and promising future of Troop 27 and its dedicated leadership
who have given so selflessly, with meritorious achievement, in
contributing to the education and development of the youth of their
community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 75th Anniversary of Boy Scout Troop 27, Newburgh, New
York, on June 3, 2017; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Ed Romero, Scoutmaster, Boy Scout Troop 27.
