CONGRATULATING Elethia Corine Sears upon the
occasion of celebrating her 103rd Birthday

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge
to the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their
past contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and
valuable asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Elethia Corine Sears upon the occasion of her 103rd
Birthday to be celebrated on Friday, March 10, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Elethia Corine Sears, the daughter of Peter and Lillian
Loague, was born on March 10, 1914; and

WHEREAS, As an adult, one of Elethia Corine Sears' greatest passions
was traveling; when she was given the opportunity to come to New York to
live near one of her daughters, she took it as the chance to see the
world; and

WHEREAS, Working as a nanny for many years, Elethia Corine Sears'
area of expertise was taking care of newborn babies; she retired from
this position in 1988; and

WHEREAS, Currently, Elethia Corine Sears enjoys spending her time
dancing and playing dominos and cards, as well as cooking and baking for
her family; and

WHEREAS, A dedicated Roman Catholic, Elethia Corine Sears worships
at St. Rita's parish in Brooklyn, New York; she is a member of the
Rosary Society and a former member of the choir; and

WHEREAS, Elethia Corine Sears is the proud mother of five children,
one late daughter; and the loving grandmother of grandchildren, 47
great-grandchildren and 35 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom feel
privileged to be a part of her life and rejoice in her achievements; and

WHEREAS, With her zest for life, Elethia Corine Sears has inspired
and enhanced the lives of her family and friends; and

WHEREAS, This exceptional centenarian has experienced the incredible
joys and sorrows characteristic of and reserved for those with the
stamina and courage to savor a full life; and

WHEREAS, Elethia Corine Sears has enriched the lives of those around
her through her joyous and sincere love for others and through the
quiescent charm and wisdom which comes only from a fullness of years;
and

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly
recognize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have
witnessed and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and

awesome achievements of this country during the last century, while
themselves contributing to the growth and excellence of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Elethia Corine Sears upon the occasion of celebrating her
103rd Birthday; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Elethia Corine Sears.
