memorializing Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to
proclaim April 2018, as Primary Immune Deficiency
Diseases Awareness Month in the State of New York

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize
official months that are set aside to increase awareness of serious
issues that affect the lives of citizens of New York State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim April 2018, as Primary
Immune Deficiency Diseases Awareness Month in the State of New York, in
conjunction with the observance of National Primary Immune Deficiency
Diseases Awareness Month; and

WHEREAS, Primary Immune Deficiency Diseases can affect a single cell
or more than one component of the system and are hereditary or genetic
defects which can affect anyone, regardless of age or sex; and

WHEREAS, The severity of these diseases range from mild to serious
and in some cases, can be recurrent and may require proper medical care
in order to enable patients to live full and independent lives; and

WHEREAS, The World Health Organization recognizes more than 150
primary immunodeficiency diseases which infect the skin, sinuses, ears,
lungs, brain and intestinal tract, and today affect over 250,000
Americans; and

WHEREAS, Public support is required in order to have full
understanding of Primary Immune Deficiency Diseases; awareness is also
needed in order to find cures in a timely manner, and to develop and
make life-saving therapies accessible to all those affected by these
diseases; and

WHEREAS, The Immune Deficiency Foundation (IDF) is committed to
improving the diagnosis, treatment, and quality of life for those
affected with Primary Immune Deficiency Diseases by conducting thorough
research, providing the education necessary, and through advocacy; now,
therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim April 2018, as Primary
Immune Deficiency Diseases Awareness Month in the State of New York; and
be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo, Governor of the State of
New York, and to the Immune Deficiency Foundation.
