Assembly Resolution No. 1045

COMMEMORATING the 27th year of the annual Bread of
Life Drive held March 12-24, 2018

WHEREAS, Nearly 1.3 million New Yorkers face hunger every year,
including close to one in four New York City children; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
those individuals and organizations that devote their energy, resources
and thoughtful care to improving the quality of life in their
communities and the needs of its residents; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 27th year of the annual Bread of Life Drive held March
12-24, 2018; and

WHEREAS, The Bread of Life Drive (BOLD) is an annual food drive
organized by the Notre Dame Club of Staten Island; and

WHEREAS, Food collected benefits non-profit organizations in Staten
Island and Brooklyn; and

WHEREAS, This vital event takes places in the early spring to help
bridge the long gap between holiday food drives; and

WHEREAS, The Staten Island Club organized the first BOLD in 1992;
that year, it was one of many community service projects coordinated by
Notre Dame alumni clubs throughout the world to celebrate the
University's sesquicentennial; and

WHEREAS, BOLD's initial success, coupled with a heightened awareness
about the need on Staten Island, prompted the Club to transform BOLD
into an annual event that has inspired similar food drives across the
United States; and

WHEREAS, Since its inception, the Staten Island BOLD has collected
more than 1,285,000 non-perishable food items; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 27th year of the annual Bread of Life Drive held March
12-24, 2018; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Notre Dame Club of Staten Island.
