HONORING Nancy Jones upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Randy Streeter
Senior Citizen of the Year Award by the Lewis County
Office for the Aging on May 22, 2018
WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge
to the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their
past contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and
valuable asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend the
senior citizens of the Empire State who, as they reach the fullness of
years, continue to be active and vital participants in the life of their
community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Nancy Jones upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
Randy Streeter Senior Citizen of the Year Award by the Lewis County
Office for the Aging, to be celebrated on Tuesday, May 22, 2018; and
WHEREAS, A woman of singular distinction, Nancy Jones has
continually demonstrated extreme competence, extraordinary intelligence
and diligent leadership in her unwavering service to her community and,
consequently, has been selected for this most prestigious honor; and
WHEREAS, Nancy Jones has given tirelessly of her time and energies
to countless organizations, including Lewis County Hospice and Local
Stone Soup Suppers; she is also a member of the Argonaut Club and River
of Life Senior Group; and
WHEREAS, As a Lewis County Hospice volunteer, Nancy Jones works in
the administrative office, preparing family packets and keeps
bereavement charts up to date; she also provides emotional support to
the families, offering meals and respite; and
WHEREAS, In addition, she keeps track of who may need counseling or
group support, and plays a vital role in helping with the memorial
service by going above and beyond what is expected of her; and
WHEREAS, Nancy Jones is also a founding member of The Depend'ables,
a group made up of widows and caregivers; and
WHEREAS, Nancy Jones is an active member of the W.O.W. (women of
wisdom), a 55 and over women's group for ladies who attend the River of
Life Church in Copenhagen, where she also serves as church librarian;
and
WHEREAS, This extraordinary woman earned the Gold Star Award for the
highest Scholastic achievement from the House of the Good Samaritan
nursing class of 1959; she is also the proud recipient of the 2013
Hospice Volunteer of the Year Award; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Nancy Jones has displayed
throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, Nancy Jones has enriched the lives of her family, friends
and colleagues through her love and respect for others, and through the
wisdom which comes from many years of living life to the fullest; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Nancy Jones upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the Randy Streeter Senior Citizen of the Year Award by the Lewis County
Office for the Aging on May 22, 2018; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Nancy Jones.
