COMMENDING WSKG upon the occasion of celebrating
its 50th Anniversary on May 12, 2018

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that the quality
and character of life in this great Empire State is indelibly enriched
by the faithful and untiring efforts of those individuals who have
helped shape the history of broadcasting in their area; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend WSKG upon the occasion of its 50th Anniversary celebrated at an
event on Saturday, May 12, 2018; and

WHEREAS, For five decades, WSKG has strived to inspire with the
highest quality educational programming, explore the arts, culture and
heritage of the region and beyond, engage in thoughtful consideration of
news and issues of importance, and entertain with the very best in
multimedia programming; and

WHEREAS, Located in Vestal, New York, WSKG strongly values
diversity, in opinion, thought and culture; creativity and innovation,
in thinking, programming, and content development; integrity, in how it
conducts business, in the programming it creates; courage, to be
different, accept failure, to take a stand; transparency, to open the
activities of the station to public inquiry; accountability, in all its
actions; open mindedness, in how it approaches issues and opinions; and
responsiveness, to community interests, needs and new ideas; these
values help WSKG clearly define its mission as an organization serving
its community; and

WHEREAS, WSKG is operated by WSKG Public Telecommunications Council,
a private non-profit corporation chartered by the Board of Regents of
the University of the State of New York in association with the New York
State Department of Education, and provides a public educational
telecommunications service under the governance of a Board of Trustees
which is selected from the communities served by the Station; and

WHEREAS, WSKG covers 21 counties in both New York and Pennsylvania,
and operates on frequencies: 89.3fm in Binghamton, 90.9fm in
Ithaca/Watkins Glen, 88.7fm in Hornell/Alfred, 91.1fm in Corning/Elmira,
91.7fm in Oneonta/Cooperstown, and 89.9fm in Odessa; and

WHEREAS, Moreover, WSKG TV broadcasts on Channels 46.1 and 30.1 and
on Channel 1221 on most Spectrum Cable systems; WSKG World broadcasts on
Channels 46.2 and 30.2 and on Channel 1275 on most Spectrum Cable
systems; and WSKG Create broadcasts on Channels 46.3 and 30.3 and on
Channel 1276 on most Spectrum Cable systems; and

WHEREAS, WSKG and WSQX Radio is available for online live streaming
24/7 via WSKG.org, and its locally-produced radio shows are available
online on-demand; listeners can access WSKG and WSQX Radio on their
mobile device via the free NPR News app, and many of WSKG TV Original

Productions are available via WSKG.org, YouTube and the WSKG Video
Portal; and

WHEREAS, The success of WSKG is in direct correlation to the efforts
of President and CEO Greg Catlin and his staff, whose involvement is,
and always has been, characterized by an impressive commitment, an
unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in
all endeavors on behalf of the institution and the community it serves;
and

WHEREAS, WSKG has served its Southern Tier community with integrity
and devotion, continuously striving to meet the needs of its listeners
and viewers through entertainment and enlightenment; now, therefore, be
it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend WSKG upon the occasion of celebrating its 50th Anniversary on
May 12, 2018; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Greg Catlin, President and CEO, WSKG.
