MEMORIALIZING Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim
the week of August 26, 2018, as Neighborhood
Preservation and Revitalization Week in the State of
New York
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize
official weeks that are set aside to increase awareness of issues that
affect the lives of citizens of New York State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, it is the sense of this Legislative Body to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim the week of August 26,
2018, as Neighborhood Preservation and Revitalization Week in the State
of New York; and
WHEREAS, 50% of renter households in New York State pay rents above
the affordability level and 30% of homeowners are considered severely
cost-burdened which negatively impacts our neighborhoods and distresses
our communities; and
WHEREAS, The objective of Neighborhood Preservation and
Revitalization Week is to raise awareness of affordable housing and
neighborhood preservation and revitalization issues around the state,
and; to engage with community members in support of neighborhood
preservation and revitalization activities in order to ensure that every
New York State community is a place of opportunity; and
WHEREAS, This week provides an opportunity for all stakeholders
working on neighborhood preservation and revitalization issues to talk
about their work and what needs to be done to make affordable housing
and neighborhood preservation and revitalization a reality for the
people of New York State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim the week of August 26,
2018, as Neighborhood Revitalization Week in the State of New York; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo, Governor of the State of
New York.
