COMMENDING Bob LaRock upon the occasion of being
named the 2018 Veteran of the Year by the Fulton
Veterans Council on November 11, 2017

WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of New York,
who have served so valiantly and honorably in wars in which this
country's freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace
in peace-time, deserve a special salute from this Legislative Body; and

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commend those
who have served in times of active conflict, as well as those who have
served in times of peace; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Bob LaRock
upon the occasion of being named the 2018 Veteran of the Year by the
Fulton Veterans Council, celebrated at its Veterans Day Ceremony on
Saturday, November 11, 2017, at Fulton City Hall in Fulton, New York;
and

WHEREAS, The esteemed Veteran of the Year Award recognizes
individuals who have served honorably in the military, and who have
contributed to the betterment of their community after being discharged;
Bob LaRock is truly deserving of this prestigious award; and

WHEREAS, After leaving high school, Bob LaRock enlisted in the
United States Marines; he successfully completed boot camp on Paris
Island in 1953, and traveled by ship to Korea, where he was stationed
for approximately three weeks; and

WHEREAS, Bob LaRock then sailed aboard the USNS General W.H. Gordon
to Kolbe, Japan, arriving on Christmas Eve of 1953; for the next few
years, Bob traveled to Iwo Jima, Nagoya, and Vieques, Puerto Rico; at
each location, he completed various maneuvers and extensive combat
training; in Iwo Jima, he was a part of Operation Flag Hoist in 1954;
and

WHEREAS, In recognition of his valiant military service, Bob LaRock
earned the National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal,
Korean Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal; and

WHEREAS, Upon the completion of his military career in 1956, Bob
LaRock met his late wife, Carol, and the couple settled in Fulton, where
they raised two children; and

WHEREAS, Bob LaRock proudly serves his fellow veterans as a member
of the Fulton VFW and the Honor Guard; and

WHEREAS, Having exhibited his patriotism both at home and abroad,
Bob LaRock has demonstrated his love for his country and merits
forevermore, the highest respect of his State and Nation; and

WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended
and thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and

for their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Bob LaRock upon the occasion of being named the 2018 Veteran of
the Year by the Fulton Veterans Council; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Bob LaRock.
