CELEBRATING June 25, 2018, Nurturing Community Day
in Chemung County
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize those
citizens, institutions and organizations who initiate and encourage
partnerships that strengthen the fabric of life throughout their
communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
celebrate Monday, June 25, 2018, Nurturing Community Day in Chemung
County; and
WHEREAS, Nurturing Community Day is a special event celebrated by a
coalition of organizations comprised of The Food Bank of the Southern
Tier, the Family Reading Partnership of Chemung Valley, the Chemung
County Library District, and the Senate Summer Reading Program,
Tanglewood Nature Center and Museum, Abby's Paws for a Cause, and the
Chemung County Child Hunger Task Force; and
WHEREAS, On Nurturing Community Day, the coalition will kick off the
county's annual Summer Food Service Program and, this year, a broader
summer-long campaign to help nourish the minds and bodies of Chemung
County's children and families; and
WHEREAS, Nuturing Community Day marks the beginning of a
communitywide effort throughout the summer of 2018, urging citizens to
join a summer reading program and celebrate nurturing their community
with fun, friends, and food, as well as to support efforts encouraging,
promoting and developing a sense of community for the well-being of this
and future generations; and
WHEREAS, Studies have shown that the minds and bodies of children
require adequate nutrition all year long, and the Summer Food Service
Program provides a nutritious, no-cost option for families during the
summer months; and
WHEREAS, It is also estimated that school summer breaks will cause
the average student to lose up to one month of educational instruction;
and
WHEREAS, The children of Chemung County are the foundation on which
our future success is built; and
WHEREAS, Families and communities are required to have fun
throughout the summer; and
WHEREAS, Families are encouraged to play and read as vital
contributions in helping children develop a positive self-image, sense
of belonging, a sense of competence, and a sense of community; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of those individuals and organizations who work to support their
communities by providing their skills and talents to helping others;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
celebrate Monday, June 25, 2018, Nurturing Community Day in Chemung
County; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Food Bank of the Southern Tier, the Family Reading
Partnership of Chemung Valley, the Chemung County Library District,
Tanglewood Nature Center and Museum, Abby's Paws for a Cause, and the
Chemung County Child Hunger Task Force.
