CONGRATULATING Melanie Green upon the occasion of
capturing the 2018 New York State Public High School
Athletic Association Girls Golf Championship
WHEREAS, Individual and team championships are highly sought after
in high school sports; this Legislative Body commends rare athletic
achievements and pays special recognition to those who pursue such
excellence and become examples for the youth of this great Empire State;
and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition helps to enhance both the moral and
physical development of young athletes, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the importance of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, and developing a sense of fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to the young people of the State of New York who, by
achieving outstanding success in athletic competition, have inspired and
brought pride to their school and community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and fully in accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Melanie Green upon the occasion of capturing the 2018 New
York State Public High School Athletic Association Girls Golf
Championship on Sunday, June 3, 2018, at Bethpage Golf Course; and
WHEREAS, A sophomore at Medina High School, Melanie Green was 4
under after Saturday's opening round with a 68 and was tied for first
place; she finished the two-day event with a total of 138 to win by two
strokes; she was even after 15 holes but birdies 16 and 17 to go 2 under
finishing with a round of 70; and
WHEREAS, Melanie Green advanced to the New York State Championships
after winning her second straight Section VI title; and
WHEREAS, This exceptional athlete joined the golf team as a 7th
grader in fall of 2014, and competed with the varsity boys team; during
her next season, she earned All-League status in the Niagara-Orleans
League and competed at the Section VI Boys Golf Tournament at River
Oaks; and
WHEREAS, In the fall of 2016, Medina High School established a
girl's golf program, and Melanie Green finished the regular season in
1st place; and
WHEREAS, As a freshman, Melanie Green finished in 1st place at the
Section VI Tournament in the spring of 2017, and placed 3rd at the New
York State Public High School Athletic Association Girls Golf Tournament
at Bethpage Golf Course; and
WHEREAS, Melanie Green has brought honor to herself and to her
family, school, and community and may stand with pride in her
achievements, experiencing the satisfaction of her labors and the joy of
her accomplishments, eager to face the challenge of new experiences as
she continues her education and athletic career; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Melanie Green upon the occasion of capturing the 2018 New
York State Public High School Athletic Association Girls Golf
Championship; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Melanie Green.
