COMMEMORATING the 225th Anniversary of the Town of
Schuyler to be celebrated on April 2, 2017

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to honor and
commemorate the distinguished histories of the communities which
comprise the noble body of this great Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 225th Anniversary of the Town of Schuyler, in Herkimer
County, New York; and

WHEREAS, On Sunday, April 2, 2017, residents of the Town of Schuyler
will be welcomed to its 225th Anniversary Celebration with the joyful
sound of the West Schuyler United Methodist church bell which will ring
225 times to recognize this auspicious milestone; and

WHEREAS, Throughout the day, revelers are invited to attend a myriad
of events hosted by Master of Ceremonies Darryl Gillette, including a
Presentation of the Colors; introduction of distinguished guests; a
presentation of Schuyler's Early Years by Town Historian Jean Finster; a
proclamation by the Schuyler Historical Society; a talk on the history
of the Mohawk Valley by honorary speaker, Judge Stephen Canipe; a moment
of silence: 21 Gun Salute to Schuyler by the John A. La Polla VFW Post
No. 8728; and a benediction offered by The Reverend William Mudge,
district superintendent, United Methodist Church; and

WHEREAS, In addition, residents will gather together to sing "Happy
Birthday" to their beloved town, and enjoy a piece of cake from the
giant birthday cake; people can also purchase souvenir hats and
historical books; and

WHEREAS, Established on April 10, 1792, the Town of Schuyler was
named in honor of General Philip Schuyler as a reward for his valuable
services rendered during the Revolutionary War; and

WHEREAS, The first settlement of New Petersburg was named after
Peter Hasenclever, who along with 20 other families from Germany,
settled in East Schuyler in 1765; as time went on, more and more people
came to the area, and they began to settle in West Schuyler; and

WHEREAS, Today, under the luminous leadership of its town
supervisor, Kenneth M. Dodge, this western Herkimer County town offers
its 3,500 residents affordable residential and commercial real estate
opportunities in a quiet countryside setting that is still close to
shopping, places to work, the arts and entertainment centers throughout
the Mohawk Valley; and

WHEREAS, Remaining fruitful over the ebb and flow of decades of
growth and change, the Town of Schuyler continues its commitment to
enhancing the quality of life of its citizens, ensuring a positive
business, institutional and educational climate, and providing all
essential services; now, therefore, be it


RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 225th Anniversary of the Town of Schuyler, recognizing
the significance of the role it continues to play in the life of the
community of the State of New York; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Kenneth M. Dodge, Supervisor, the Town of Schuyler.
