COMMEMORATING the 100th Anniversary of P.S. 41,
The Crocheron School on June 2, 2017
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those institutions of commitment and high achievement whose
purpose and endeavor have been dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in
the education of the youth of this noble Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of P.S. 41, The Crocheron School; the
yearlong observation will culminate with a school assembly on Friday,
June 2, 2017, and present a joyful festival on June 3, 2017, to
commemorate the school's centennial year; and
WHEREAS, In 1912, faced with the rapidly growing population of
Bayside, civic-minded residents petitioned that a new school be erected
on a city-owned site at the corner of Crocheron and Franklin Avenues;
construction of a 16-room brick building began in 1915, and was
completed the following year; and
WHEREAS, On October 5, 1916, P.S. 41 opened its doors for the first
time, welcoming students in kindergarten through sixth grade; and
WHEREAS, With the steady growth of the Bayside community, a
31,500-square foot addition was completed in 1927, to provide the
students of P.S. 41 additional classrooms and a gymnasium; aside from
small renovations over the years, the school's essential structure has
remained unchanged since 1927; and
WHEREAS, In 2007, P.S. 41 was named a National Blue Ribbon School by
the United States Department of Education; and
WHEREAS, Over the past 100 years, P.S. 41 has provided an excellent
education to thousands of children, and its nurturing and welcoming
environment has helped foster a vibrant, tight-knit school community;
and
WHEREAS, Through its long and sustained commitment to excellence in
educational endeavors, P.S. 41 has so clearly advanced that spirit of
united purpose and shared concern which is the unalterable manifestation
of our American experience; and
WHEREAS, Steeped in a proud and distinguished history, P.S. 41 may
look back with pride upon its humble beginnings, find just satisfaction
in its purposeful growth and hold true of purpose in its commitment to
serving the educational needs of the citizens of Bayside, Queens; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of P.S. 41, The Crocheron School,
noting the propriety of its goals, the constancy of its commitment and
the significance of its accomplishments in preparing the youth of today
and leaders of tomorrow; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to P.S. 41, The Cocheron School, Bayside, New York.
