CONGRATULATING Clarkson University Women's Ice
Hockey Team and Head Coach Matt Desrosiers upon the
occasion of capturing the 2017 NCAA Division I
Women's Ice Hockey National Championship
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
outstanding athletes who have distinguished themselves through their
exceptional performance, attaining unprecedented success and the highest
level of personal achievement; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Clarkson University Women's Ice Hockey Team and Head Coach
Matt Desrosiers upon the occasion of capturing the 2017 NCAA Division I
Women's Ice Hockey National Championship; to the praise and applause of
their excited fans, the Golden Knights defeated the University of
Wisconsin in an exciting 3-0 shutout to capture the Championship on
Sunday, March 19, 2017, in Saint Charles, Missouri; and
WHEREAS, This monumental win marked the top-ranked Clarkson
University Women's Ice Hockey Team's second NCAA Division I Women's Ice
Hockey National Championship in four years; and
WHEREAS, The Golden Knights had advanced to the National
Championship by edging two-time defending National Champion Minnesota
4-3 in the Frozen Four semi-finals in a game they never trailed; and
WHEREAS, Prior to that, Clarkson University had earned a trip to the
Frozen Four with a 3-1 victory over Cornell University in the NCAA
quarterfinals just a week after winning their first ECAC tournament
crown a week earlier with a 1-0 victory over Cornell University; and
WHEREAS, In addition, the Clarkson University Women's Ice Hockey
Team won its third regular season ECAC title during the 2016-2017
season; and
WHEREAS, The Clarkson University Women's Ice Hockey Team's
performance on and off the ice has reflected favorably on the players,
their families, Clarkson University, the university's athletic program,
the Potsdam community, the North Country as a whole, and the entire
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Proudly donning the school's colors of green and gold,
family, friends, fans, alumni, the Clarkson Pep Band, and the community
at large loyally and enthusiastically supported the Golden Knights
throughout their journey; they finished their second championship season
in the 14-year history of the program with a 32-4-5 overall record,
including a 19-1-2 First place ECAC Hockey mark; and
WHEREAS, In a sport such as ice hockey, which demands athletic
prowess, speed and agility, Head Coach Matt Desrosiers and his expert
coaching staff worked hard to hone the skills of this championship team,
teaching these outstanding athletes lessons which will prove invaluable
both on and off the ice; and
WHEREAS, Head Coach Matt Desrosiers and Assistant Coaches Britni
Smith and Tony Maci and all of the outstanding athletes on the Clarkson
University Women's Ice Hockey Team have clearly utilized dedication,
determination and teamwork in providing a lasting contribution to the
spirit of excellence which is a tradition of their school; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the members of the Clarkson University Women's Ice Hockey
Team: Corie Jacobson, Jessica Gillham, Genevieve Bannon, Cayley Mercer,
McKenzie Johnson, Shea Tiley, Brielle Bellerive, Katelyn Fournier,
Amanda Titus, Savannah Harmon, Lauren Lefler, Loren Gabel, Emma Keenan,
Cassidy Vinkle, Rhyen McGill, Kelly Mariani, Josiane Pozzebon, Michaela
Pejzlova, Ella Shelton, Katherine Beaumier, Taylor Turnquist and Jenna
Brenneman; Head Coach Matt Desrosiers; Assistant Coaches Britni Smith
and Tony Maci, Strength and Conditioning Coach Tad Johnson; Equipment
Manager Logan Fischer, and Trainer Alana Alpert; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the members of the Clarkson University Women's Ice Hockey
Team, Head Coach Matt Desrosiers, Assistant Coaches Britni Smith and
Tony Maci, Strength and Conditioning Coach Tad Johnson, Equipment
Manager Logan Fischer, and Trainer Alana Alpert.
