HONORING Chief Master Sergeant Daniel Sileo upon
the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by Rotary International on June 1, 2017
WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of New York,
who have served so valiantly and honorably in wars in which this
country's freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace
in peacetime, deserve a special salute from this Legislative Body; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commend those
who have served in times of active conflict, as well as those who have
served in times of peace; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
give positive definition to the profile and disposition of the American
Armed Forces profoundly strengthen our shared commitment to the exercise
of freedom; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Chief Master Sergeant Daniel Sileo upon the occasion of his designation
for special recognition by both the Rotary Club of Webster, New York,
and the Surprise Arizona Rotary Club; and
WHEREAS, Chief Master Sergeant Daniel Sileo will be recognized by
both clubs for his 25 years of exceptional military service at a meeting
on Thursday, June 1, 2017, at the Surprise Arizona Rotary Club; at this
auspicious occasion, he will be officially presented with a lightweight
wheelchair by the Wheelchair Foundation; and
WHEREAS, The Wheelchair Foundation is a nonprofit organization
leading an international effort to create awareness of the needs and
abilities of people with physical disabilities, to promote the joy of
giving, create global friendship, and to deliver a wheelchair to every
child, teenager and adult in the world who needs one, but cannot afford
one; for these people, the Wheelchair Foundation delivers hope, mobility
and independence; and
WHEREAS, A native son of the Town of Irondequoit, New York, Daniel
Sileo attended Edison Tech High School; he proudly served his country as
a member of the United States Air Force from 1952-1977, during the
Korean War, the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Cold War, and the Vietnam War;
and
WHEREAS, Throughout his 25 years of meritorious service, Daniel
Sileo quickly rose through the ranks, retiring with the esteemed title
of Chief Master Sergeant, the highest enlisted non-commissioned
position; and
WHEREAS, In his role as Senior Advisor for Second Air Force (2AF)
enlisted personnel, Chief Master Sergeant Daniel Sileo provided a close
liaison between Lieutenant General Richard M. Hoban and the enlisted men
at Headquarters 2AF, and at approximately 24 wings throughout the
central and eastern portion of the United States; and
WHEREAS, While accompanying his superior on travels around the
command, Chief Master Sergeant Daniel Sileo bonded with the enlisted
men, making sure they could freely express their views and ideas to the
General; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his tenure, Chief Master Sergeant Daniel Sileo
was a member of several military organizations including the SAC NCO
Academy Graduates Association, the Air Force Sergeants Association, The
Base Exchange Advisory Committee and the Strategic Air Command; and
WHEREAS, Even in the midst of four of our major global conflicts,
Chief Master Sergeant Daniel Sileo found time to spearhead a drive to
raise funds to buy Christmas gifts for nursing home residents in Rome,
New York; and
WHEREAS, After his discharge, Chief Master Sergeant Daniel Sileo
returned to New York, and worked for the Internal Revenue Service for
many years; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Audrey, and their
two daughters, all of whom have shown him love and support and rejoice
in his many achievements; and
WHEREAS, Residents of this great State must never forget the courage
with which these men and women served their country, and must recognize
that no greater debt is owed than that owed to those who gave their
lives for their beloved Nation and to those who continue to be missing
in action; and
WHEREAS, Having exhibited their patriotism both at home and abroad,
these men and women demonstrated their love for their country and merit
forevermore, the highest respect of their State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended
and thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and
for their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Chief Master Sergeant Daniel Sileo upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition by Rotary International on June 1,
2017; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Chief Master Sergeant Daniel Sileo.
