HONORING Robert Wirth upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition by the New York
State Office for the Aging on May 9, 2017

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge
to the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their
past contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and
valuable asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Robert Wirth
upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition by the New
York State Office for the Aging at its Annual Older New Yorkers Day
Celebration on Tuesday, May 9, 2017, at the Hart Theatre Lounge in the
Egg, Albany, New York; and

WHEREAS, Each May, the New York State Office for the Aging pauses to
acknowledge the outstanding contributions made by older citizens during
National Older Americans Month; and

WHEREAS, Members of older generations have helped build and shape
our Nation to be the greatest in the world; they have defended our
freedoms and values to ensure that those who come after them may have
better lives; nowhere in the Nation is the legacy of their efforts more
visible and more a part of the lives of all citizens than here in the
State of New York; and

WHEREAS, A resident of Schuyler County for 41 years, Robert "Bob"
Wirth currently resides in Burdett, New York, with his wife, Wendy; and

WHEREAS, Bob Wirth began his career as a clerk in the plumbing,
heating, and electric department of a retail store; he then served as
both a machinist and shop steward at a local crane and hoist company;
his next position was as a service technician, followed by a service
representative; and

WHEREAS, In 1992, Bob Wirth decided to follow his dream of providing
quality, affordable rental housing in Schuyler County by purchasing and
renovating outdated and neglected houses, and subsequently, he and his
wife founded Wirth Management; and

WHEREAS, This esteemed man has been called upon to contribute his
time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has
always given of himself unstintingly; and

WHEREAS, In addition to his valuable work with Wirth Management, Bob
Wirth has made a difference in the health and well-being of many
Schuyler County residents through his participation in a variety of
volunteer ventures; he has co-facilitated several programs such as Bone
Builders and Strong for Life; and

WHEREAS, As an RSVP advisory council member, Bob Wirth helps
determine what programming may have a positive effect on the aging
population in the County; using his extensive knowledge of home repairs

and construction, he assists on various building projects with the
Schuyler Housing Opportunity Council including winterizing homes, and
installing both ramps and walk-in showers; and

WHEREAS, Bob Wirth is a vital member of the Schuyler Outreach
Council and the Schuyler County Hunger Task Force; he also volunteers
with the Summer Food Program and at the Reynoldsville Food Pantry, which
provides food and toiletries to those in need; and

WHEREAS, This remarkable man regularly donates blood, and helps take
care of his in-laws and his wife's aunt, allowing them to live at their
home; and

WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Robert Wirth has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and

WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Wendy, their two
children, and four grandchildren, all of whom have shown him love and
support and rejoice in his many achievements; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Robert Wirth has displayed
throughout his life; and

WHEREAS, Robert Wirth, a very active and industrious man, has
inspired and enriched the lives of those he serves through his
volunteerism, generously sharing the wisdom gained over years of
experiencing life to its fullest; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Robert Wirth upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by the New York State Office for the Aging on May 9, 2017;
and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Robert Wirth.
