CONGRATULATING Patrick Hazlitt upon the occasion
of winning the NYSPHSAA Division II Track and Field
Boys 800 Meter Run Championship on June 10, 2017

WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be
achieved only through strenuous practice, team play and team spirit,
nurtured by dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and

WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical
development of the young people of this State, preparing them for the
future by instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a
standard of healthy living, imparting a desire for success and
developing a sense of fair play and competition; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate
Patrick Hazlitt upon the occasion of winning the NYSPHSAA Division II
Track and Field Boys 800 Meter Run Championship on Saturday, June 10,
2017, at Union-Endicott High School Ty Cobb Stadium in Endicott, New
York; and

WHEREAS, Proudly donning the school's colors of navy and maroon,
family, friends, and the community at large loyally and enthusiastically
supported Patrick Hazlitt throughout his journey as he ended his season
at the Championship with an impressive run time of 1:53:79; and

WHEREAS, After entering the competition as the top-seeded DII
competitor, Patrick Hazlitt, a senior at Watkins Glen High School, was
the first Section 4 athlete to the awards platform's top step; and

WHEREAS, Patrick Hazlitt has proven himself to be an unbeatable
combination of talents, reflecting favorably on his school; and

WHEREAS, The athletic ability displayed by Patrick Hazlitt is due in
great part to the efforts of Head Coach John Fazzary, a skilled and
inspirational tutor, respected for his ability to develop potential into
excellence; and

WHEREAS, Head Coach John Fazzary has done a superb job in guiding,
molding and inspiring Patrick Hazlitt towards his goals; and

WHEREAS, Sports competitions instill the values of teamwork, pride
and accomplishment, and Patrick Hazlitt has clearly made a contribution
to the spirit of excellence which is a tradition of his school; now,
therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Patrick Hazlitt upon the occasion of winning the NYSPHSAA
Division II Track and Field Boys 800 Meter Run Championship on June 10,
2017, and to wish him continued success in all his future endeavors; and
be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Patrick Hazlitt and Head Coach John Fazzary.
