MOURNING the death of David Michael Winn,
distinguished citizen and devoted member of his
community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and

WHEREAS, David Michael Winn of Bainbridge, New York, died on Friday,
December 8, 2017, at the age of 68 after a courageous battle against
pancreatic cancer; and

WHEREAS, David Michael Winn, known to his friends and family as
Mike, was born in Oneonta, New York, to John F. and Dorothy M. Winn on
Thursday, February 24, 1949; he attended Sidney schools prior to
graduating from Bainbridge-Guilford, Class of 1967; and

WHEREAS, At a very early age, Mike Winn worked at John's Garage, a
business his father started in 1956; after his father's passing in 1993,
the Winn boys carried on the family business and Mike's pride for the
garage ran deep; one of his passions was going on wrecker calls; when
you met the wrecker on the road, Mike was likely behind the wheel; and

WHEREAS, Mike Winn loved his '36 Ford Coupe, and enjoyed taking his
family members and friends for rides; furthermore, he was an avid player
of cards and yard games and a passionate fan of the Yankees, Giants, and
NASCAR; and

WHEREAS, In 1968, Mike Winn was drafted into the Army and proudly
served in Vietnam as a Motor Pool Mechanic with the 25th Infantry
Division; he was a member of the Corp. Ralph H. Arrandale VFW Post No.
7914 of Sidney, and the American Legion Post No. 806 of Bainbridge; Mike
was a true patriot and marched in many parades representing our
veterans; and

WHEREAS, Mike Winn distinguished himself in his profession and by
his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of
his community; Mike was often giving of his time and compassion to
seniors and especially veterans who were less fortunate; and

WHEREAS, Mike Winn's commitment to excellence, and his spirit of
humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including
charitable and civic endeavors; and

WHEREAS, Mike Winn served on the Bainbridge Town Planning Board for
over 30 years; he also worked on the Sidney Veterans Memorial Park
Committee; and

WHEREAS, Predeceased by his parents, John and Dorothy Winn, and his
sister-in-law, Nancy (Morris) Winn, Mike Winn is survived by his loving
wife of 49 years, Phyllis (Hubbard) Winn; his two sons, Michael (Janet)
Winn and Hugh (Stefanie) Winn; and his six grandchildren, Casey, Ryan,

Tommy, Haley, Callie and Jack; as well as his siblings and their
families John "Pat", Jerry (Corleen), Frank (Carol), Tom (Colleen) and
Mary Lou Winn; and

WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Mike Winn leaves behind a legacy which will long endure the
passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all he served
and befriended; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of David Michael Winn, distinguished citizen and devoted
member of his community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of David Michael Winn.
