COMMENDING Dr. Barry Weinstein upon the occasion
of his retirement after many years of distinguished
public service

WHEREAS, Within every community of the State of New York there are
certain individuals who, by virtue of their commitment and dedication,
command the respect and admiration of their community for their
exemplary contributions and service on behalf of others; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those distinguished citizens who demonstrate great courage and
diligence in providing for the care and welfare of the citizens of their
communities and this great Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Dr. Barry Weinstein upon the occasion of his retirement after
many years of distinguished public service; and

WHEREAS, Amherst Town Supervisor Dr. Barry Weinstein will officially
leave office at the end of 2017, culminating 34 years in public service
as a Williamsville School Board member, Erie County Legislator and
Amherst Town Board member; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Barry Weinstein joined the Amherst Town Board in 2008,
and two years later was elected as Supervisor of Erie County's most
populated town; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his tenure, Dr. Barry Weinstein kept taxes down,
shrunk the number of departments, and gained a reputation as one who
privatized the operation of town-owned facilities, including the Audubon
Golf Course, Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village and compost facility; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, he was instrumental in the success of the
town's self-insured health insurance program, as well as the Solarize
Amherst initiative; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Barry Weinstein's illustrious career in public service
began in 1982, with his election to the Williamsville School Board;
during this time he advocated for capital projects, all-day kindergarten
and cultural diversity, making Williamsville Central School District the
best in Western New York; and

WHEREAS, In addition to his success in public service, Dr. Barry
Weinstein is a 1969 graduate of the University of Buffalo's Medical
School and served as a family physician for nearly five decades; he is
also an attorney and practiced in the 1980s and 1990s, specializing in
both medical law and real estate law; and

WHEREAS, Upon his retirement, Dr. Barry Weinstein, a native of New
Rochelle, New York, plans to spend his winters in North Carolina; and

WHEREAS, In his capacity as Amherst Town Supervisor, Dr. Barry
Weinstein served with loyalty, honor and distinction, earning him the
admiration, esteem and affection of his colleagues; and

WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his four daughters, all of
whom have shown him love and support and rejoice in his many
achievements; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the occurrence of such a compassionate
blending of strength, leadership, intellect, and commitment as that
demonstrated by Dr. Barry Weinstein over a lifetime of sacrifice and
dedication to others; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Dr. Barry Weinstein upon the occasion of his retirement after
many years of distinguished public service, and to wish him continued
success in all his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Dr. Barry Weinstein.
