COMMEMORATING the 25th Anniversary of the Great
South Bay YMCA on February 8, 2017
WHEREAS, In the course of the evolving development of this Empire
State, if the ingredients of shared concern and responsive endeavor
combine in the commitment to society, there have emerged among the
distinguished citizens of the State of New York certain organizations
which warrant special recognition; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend those
illustrious organizations of the State of New York whose focus and
intent have made a substantial impact on the quality of life in their
communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the Great South Bay YMCA, to be
celebrated on Wednesday, February 8, 2017, at the YMCA Boulton Center
for the Performing Arts, Bay Shore, New York; and
WHEREAS, The YMCA has touched the lives of virtually all Americans,
through its support of many endeavors including camping, public
libraries, night schools, group swimming lessons and lifesaving, and
teaching English as a second language; and
WHEREAS, The YMCA is dedicated to building strong kids, strong
families, and strong communities; and
WHEREAS, Tucked into Long Island's South Shore, the Great South Bay
YMCA serves thousands of children, teens, individuals and families
everyday; the facility offers 65,000 square feet of health and wellness
space; and
WHEREAS, The Great South Bay YMCA features a heated indoor pool, a
state-of-the-art Health and Wellness Center, the Frank F. Boulton
Gymnasium, a suspended/banked walking and jogging track, newly renovated
men's and women's locker rooms, and a teen "rec" center; and
WHEREAS, This vital organization's summer day camp is held at a
nearby location that offers an outdoor pool complete with a water slide,
air-conditioned classrooms and a climate-controlled gymnasium; and
WHEREAS, The YMCA serves people of all ages, incomes and abilities
through a wide variety of programs and services designed to meet the
changing needs of the community; and
WHEREAS, Over its distinguished 25 year history, the Great South Bay
YMCA has demonstrated continuous service to the residents and
communities which it serves; and
WHEREAS, The success of the Great South Bay YMCA is in direct
correlation to the efforts of its staff, whose involvement is, and
always has been, characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled
enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in all
endeavors on behalf of the organization and the community it serves; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents an opportunity for this
Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to Great South Bay YMCA;
and
WHEREAS, In light of its commitment, dedication and successful
efforts, it is the custom of this Legislative Body to extend its highest
commendation to the Great South Bay YMCA of Bay Shore, New York; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the Great South Bay YMCA on February
8, 2017; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Great South Bay YMCA.
