COMMENDING Interim President Peter M. Cohen,
M.S.W. upon the occasion of celebrating his 30 years
of service to Kingsborough Community College
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
the distinguished careers of those outstanding educational leaders,
whose dedication and achievements have been instrumental in developing
character and academic excellence in the young people of New York State;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Interim President Peter M. Cohen, M.S.W. upon the occasion of
celebrating his 30 years of service to Kingsborough Community College;
and
WHEREAS, Peter M. Cohen earned his bachelor's degree in English from
New York University (NYU); he furthered his education by obtaining his
master's degree from NYU's School of Social Work; and
WHEREAS, In 1987, Peter M. Cohen began his illustrious career at
Kingsborough Community College; through the years, he served this fine
institution in various capacities; he managed Freshman Services where he
developed the Freshman Year Experience Program, designed to help
students adjust to college life and form a meaningful connection with
the College; and
WHEREAS, In 2014, Peter M. Cohen was appointed Vice President of
Student Affairs; throughout his tenure, he oversaw a broad range of
services such as disability services, counseling, career development,
athletics and veteran affairs; and
WHEREAS, After three decades of service, Peter M. Cohen recently
assumed the position of Interim President; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, and their three
children, all of whom have shown him love and support and rejoice in his
many achievements; and
WHEREAS, Under the luminous leadership of Interim President Peter M.
Cohen, students at Kingsborough Community College are challenged to
enrich their lives in a personalized and supportive environment, and are
prepared for successful careers by faculty who are passionate,
knowledgeable and dedicated to their students' success; and
WHEREAS, Educators like Interim President Peter M. Cohen have
provided a tremendous service to the future of our State and Nation,
inspiring generations of young people in their educational journeys and
ensuring their success in their future years; and
WHEREAS, Interim President Peter M. Cohen has clearly had an
enduring impact on the youth of Kingsborough Community College, as well
as on the community-at-large, and accordingly merits recognition and
applause for his impressive dedication to others; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of those individuals who work to support our proud tradition of
public education by providing their skills and talents to our schools;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Interim President Peter M. Cohen, M.S.W. upon the occasion of
celebrating his 30 years of service to Kingsborough Community College;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Interim President Peter M. Cohen, M.S.W.
