CONGRATULATING Joseph Girard III upon the occasion
of breaking the New York State all-time boys
basketball scoring record, as well as becoming the
first and only member of the 3,000 point club, one
of high school basketball's most exclusive groups

WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be
achieved only through strenuous practice, team play and team spirit,
nurtured by dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and

WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical
development of the young people of this State, preparing them for the
future by instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a
standard of healthy living, imparting a desire for success and
developing a sense of fair play and competition; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate
Joseph Girard III upon the occasion of breaking the New York State
all-time boys basketball scoring record, as well as becoming the first
and only member of the 3,000 point club, one of high school basketball's
most exclusive groups; and

WHEREAS, An exceptionally talented athlete at Glens Falls High
School in Glens Falls, New York, Joseph Girard III broke the New York
State scoring record on Tuesday, January 30, 2018, in an exciting 74-68
win over Amsterdam High School; and

WHEREAS, In front of a sold-out crowd, Glens Falls Indian Joseph
Girard III went to the free throw line needing only one point to surpass
the previous record; with less than two minutes to play, he sunk both
baskets as his parents, Joe Girard, Jr. and Arleen Girard, and many fans
and supporters proudly cheered and took his picture, capturing this
historic moment; and

WHEREAS, The athletic talent displayed by Joseph Girard III is due
in great part to the efforts of Head Coach Rob Girard, and Athletic
Director Chip Corlew, skilled and inspirational tutors, respected for
their ability to develop potential into excellence; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Girard III's performance throughout the season has
been outstanding and he has been loyally and enthusiastically supported
by family, fans, friends and the community at large; and

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commend and
pay tribute to those young people who, by achieving outstanding success
in athletic competition, have inspired and brought pride to our majestic
Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose, this
exemplary athlete now stands honorably, with just pride in his
accomplishments and in eager anticipation of future challenges,
understanding and appreciating the caring counsel and support provided
by his coaches, teachers, and parents; now, therefore, be it


RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Joseph Girard III upon the occasion of breaking the New
York State all-time boys basketball scoring record, as well as becoming
the first and only member of the 3,000 point club, one of high school
basketball's most exclusive groups; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Joseph Girard III, Coach Rob Girard, and Athletic
Director Chip Corlew.
