HONORING Dick Perkins for 50 years of dedicated
service to the Skaneateles Volunteer Fire Department
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize those
brave citizens within our midst, who have played a significant role in
making our community a great place to live, and to celebrate the
contributions and sacrifices they have made to ensure the safety and the
advancement of the quality of life for all residents; and
WHEREAS, Within every community in the State of New York, there are
certain individuals who unselfishly devote themselves to public service,
and demonstrate great courage and diligence in providing for the care
and welfare of the citizens of their community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Dick Perkins for 50 years of dedicated service to the Skaneateles
Volunteer Fire Department to be celebrated at its Annual Banquet on
Saturday, April 14, 2018; and
WHEREAS, Dick Perkins joined the Skaneateles Volunteer Fire
Department in September of 1967; and
WHEREAS, During his distinguished tenure with the Skaneateles
Volunteer Fire Department, Dick Perkins rose through the ranks, serving
as Recording Secretary from 1971 to 1972, Assistant Fire Chief from 1973
to 1975, Fire Chief from 1976 to 1982, Vice President in 2013, and then
President from 2014 to today; and
WHEREAS, The Skaneateles Volunteer Fire Department, which was
formally authorized by the Village Board of Trustees in 1833, presently
has three stations and 100 members on its roster; the department
provides the residents of Skaneateles with services in the event of fire
and medical emergencies, or other occurrences that may threaten the
public welfare, answering hundreds of calls each year; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the long history of the Skaneateles Fire
Department, one thing has remained constant -- the dedication, hard
work, commitment and sacrifices of outstanding men and women like Dick
Perkins; and
WHEREAS, Dick Perkins has volunteered his time year in and year out,
working long hours to protect the lives and properties of his fellow
neighbors in the Skaneateles community; and
WHEREAS, Now, 50 years later, Dick Perkins continues to serve the
residents of Skaneateles as President of the Skaneateles Volunteer Fire
Department; he is retired and will serve out his last year as President
in 2018; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dick Perkins for his 50 years of dedicated service to the
Skaneateles Volunteer Fire Department and to the residents of
Skaneateles and surrounding areas; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Dick Perkins.
