COMMENDING Glenn Davis upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition by the New York
State Office for the Aging on May 22, 2018

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge
to the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their
past contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and
valuable asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Glenn
Davis upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition by
the New York State Office for the Aging at its Annual Older New Yorkers
Day Celebration on Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at the Hart Theatre Lounge in
the Egg, Albany, New York; and

WHEREAS, Each May, the New York State Office for the Aging pauses to
acknowledge the outstanding contributions made by older citizens during
National Older Americans Month; and

WHEREAS, Members of older generations have helped build and shape
our Nation to be the greatest in the world; they have defended our
freedoms and values to ensure that those who come after them may have
better lives; nowhere in the Nation is the legacy of their efforts more
visible and more a part of the lives of all citizens than here in the
State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Glenn Davis was born and raised in Wallace, New York, where
his parents ran the local hardware store; after graduating from Avoca
High School, he began a long and distinguished career as a sales
engineer for Mercury Corporation; and

WHEREAS, This esteemed gentleman has been called upon to contribute
his time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has
always given of himself unstintingly; and

WHEREAS, Glenn Davis truly believes in the benefits of volunteerism,
and has proudly passed his firm convictions onto his children, who have
all devoted their life to servitude; and

WHEREAS, Dedicated to his community, Glenn Davis served on the Avoca
Village board for two decades; during this time, he also held the title
of Mayor for 13 years; In this capacity, he not only brought his
expertise to every task, he brought his passion, enthusiasm and
experience as well; and

WHEREAS, In addition to his role as public servant, Glenn Davis has
been a vital member of the Avoca Fire and Ambulance Department for 50
years; for his steadfast and unremitting commitment to his community, he
was recognized as a Real Hometown Hero by the American Red Cross; and

WHEREAS, In 2012, Glenn Davis established The Ramp Guys; for the
last six years, he and a group of hard-working volunteers have traveled
throughout Steuben County designing and building ramps for older adults

and people with disabilities free of charge; in 2017, The Ramp Guys
spent 1,800 hours building 40 ramps valued at more than $29,000, with
over half of the material used being donated; and

WHEREAS, This remarkable man is a faithful member of the Avoca
United Methodist Church, and the Order of the Freemasons, where he held
several leadership positions and worked on various fundraising efforts;
and

WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Glenn Davis has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and

WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife of 33 years, Linda,
their four children, 11 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren,
all of whom have shown him love and support and rejoice in his many
achievements; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Glenn Davis has displayed
throughout his life; and

WHEREAS, Glenn Davis, a very active and industrious man, has
inspired and enriched the lives of those he serves through his
volunteerism, generously sharing the wisdom gained over years of
experiencing life to its fullest; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Glenn Davis upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by the New York State Office for the Aging on May 22, 2018;
and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Glenn Davis.
