CONGRATULATING the Jamesville-DeWitt Girls Varsity
Basketball Team upon the occasion of winning the
2018 Class A New York State Federation Tournament of
Champions

WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be
achieved only through rigorous practice, solid teamwork, and a dedicated
coaching staff; and

WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical
development of the young people of this State, preparing them for the
future by instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a
standard of healthy living, promoting a desire for success, and by
developing a sense of fair play and competition; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize those
young people within our communities, who by achieving outstanding
success in athletic competition, have inspired and brought great pride
to their school district and community; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
recognize and congratulate the Jamesville-DeWitt Girls Varsity
Basketball Team upon the occasion of winning the 2018 Class A New York
State Federation Tournament of Champions; and

WHEREAS, The J-D Rams won their first-ever Federation title on March
24, 2018, against James Madison High School at the Cool Insuring Arena
in Glens Falls, New York; and

WHEREAS, The Jamesville-DeWitt Girls Varsity Basketball Team had
advanced to the Federation competition after winning the 2018 Class A
New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA)
Championship; and

WHEREAS, On Saturday March 17, 2018, the Jamesville-DeWitt Girls
Varsity Basketball Team faced off against Elmont Memorial High School at
Hudson Valley Community College for the NYSPHSAA Class A title, winning
the game with a final score of (64-51); and

WHEREAS, For the Jamesville-DeWitt Girls Varsity Basketball Team,
this win marked the team's third consecutive NYSPHSAA championship and
further established the program as a New York State powerhouse; and

WHEREAS, After winning the NYSPHSAA Class A Championship, the
Jamesville-DeWitt Girls Varsity Basketball Team advanced to the New York
State Federation Tournament of Champions; the Federation Tournament of
Champions brings the public schools champions in Class AA, A and B
together with champions from the other state high school leagues that
don't participate in the NYSPHSAA tournament; and

WHEREAS, On March 24, 2018, the Jamesville-DeWitt Girls Varsity
Basketball Team played James Madison High School in the final game of

the Class A New York State Federation Tournament of Champions; the game
was a thriller from start to finish with the J-D Red Rams rallying
strong and tying up the game with 17 points by halftime; and

WHEREAS, Then in the second half of the game, with just 28 seconds
remaining and the Golden Knights leading 41-40, the Red Rams got the
ball back, drove it to the basket, and took the lead to win the game by
just one point, with a final score of 42-41; and

WHEREAS, This victory marks the Jamesville-DeWitt Girls Varsity
Basketball Team's first-ever Federation Tournament crown, and wraps up
their spectacular 2017-2018 season with an overall record of 25-4; and

WHEREAS, Athletically and academically, the outstanding players of
the Jamesville-DeWitt Girls Varsity Basketball Team proved to be an
unbeatable combination of talent and determination throughout their
successful season, reflecting favorably on their high school and the
entire Jamesville-DeWitt community; and

WHEREAS, The impressive athletic talent displayed by the
Jamesville-DeWitt Girls Varsity Basketball Team is in great part due to
the efforts of Head Coach Robert Siechen and Assistant Coaches Caroline
Cottet and Scott Gantos; and

WHEREAS, Throughout the Jamesville-DeWitt Girls Varsity Basketball
Team 2017-2018 season, the players and coaches were loyally and
enthusiastically supported by family, friends and fans from throughout
the entire community; and

WHEREAS, The members of the Jamesville-DeWitt Girls Varsity
Basketball Team rallied behind one another in establishing a sisterhood
of athletes and sportsmanship to demonstrate that these team players are
second to none; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
recognize and congratulate the members of the Jamesville-DeWitt Varsity
Girls Basketball Team: Sydney Baker, Lena Jones, Andrea Sumida, Gabby
Stickle, Paige Keeler, Noura El-Hindi, Meg Hair, Jamie Boeheim, Momo
LaClair, Kailey McKenna, and Kasey Vaughan upon the occasion of winning
the 2018 Class A New York State Federation Tournament of Champions; and
be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the aforementioned players and coaches of the
Jamesville-DeWitt Girls Varsity Basketball Team.
