CONGRATULATING Mark Cady, Sr. upon the occasion of
being named a 2018 honoree by Arsenal City Kids at
its 19th Annual Testimonial Dinner on September 15,
2018
WHEREAS, A great community is only as great as those persons who
provide exemplary service, whether through participation in voluntary
programs, through unique personal achievement in their profession, or
simply through a lifetime of good citizenship; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the community;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Mark Cady, Sr. upon the occasion of being named a 2018
honoree by Arsenal City Kids at its 19th Annual Testimonial Dinner to be
held at the Watervliet Elks Club on Saturday, September 15, 2018; Coach
Mike Deane, a retired Division I basketball coach, will serve as Master
of Ceremonies; and
WHEREAS, Prior to the dinner, Coach Mike Deane will lead his annual
Basketball Clinic at the Watervliet Dome, a free event open to both boys
and girls of all skill levels; and
WHEREAS, Arsenal City Kids, formerly KIDS COUNT!, is a nonprofit
organization which raises funds to enhance the lives of children through
recreational, cultural, and educational programs in Watervliet, New
York, and the Capital Region; and
WHEREAS, Mark Cady, Sr. was born in Watervliet in 1950; when he was
10 years old, he moved to Spegieltown and graduated from Lansingburgh
High School, Class of 1968; and
WHEREAS, The year following graduation, Mark Cady, Sr. moved back to
Watervliet and married his wife, Barbara, in 1970; and
WHEREAS, From 1979 until 1983, Mark Cady, Sr. coached Watervliet
Little League, and from 1981 until 1983, he coached Pee Wee Basketball
at Watervliet Catholic; and
WHEREAS, In 1985, Mark Cady, Sr., along with both Pete Passeretti
and Bob Catherwood, initiated "Spectator Sports"; the trio covered
basketball, baseball and football until 1993; and
WHEREAS, During that timeframe, Mark Cady, Sr. had the privilege of
working with Charlie Volker, Doug Schoonmaker, Carmen DiDonato and Dave
Plough; "Spectator Sports" was televised on Capitol Cablevision where
high school, college and professional sports were covered; and
WHEREAS, For two years, Mark Cady, Sr. did a "High School Basketball
Preview" show with Bill Higgins, John Cahill, Mark Lilac and
Watervliet's own, George "Butch" Mardigan; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his loving wife, Barbara, with him
throughout have been his three wonderful sons, twins Mark and Eric, and
David, who have all shown him love and support and rejoice in his many
achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Mark Cady, Sr. upon the occasion of being named a 2018
honoree by Arsenal City Kids at its 19th Annual Testimonial Dinner on
September 15, 2018; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Mark Cady, Sr.
