COMMEMORATING the 60th Anniversary of the Rome
Teachers Federal Credit Union
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
organizations and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare
of the community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the Rome Teachers Federal Credit
Union; this milestone was celebrated on October 15, 2018; and
WHEREAS, The Rome Teachers Federal Credit Union was established in
1958; the founding members were: Frank Taverna, Marion Brown, Joseph
Wissman, Robert Hubbell, Marjorie Ogden, Elfreida Sullivan, and Herman
Stevens; and
WHEREAS, A closed credit union that allows only select employee
groups to join, the Rome Teachers Federal Credit Union started with
employees of the Board of Education from Rome City School District and
employees of the credit union, along with immediate family members of
both; and
WHEREAS, Beginning in 1972, the Rome Teachers Federal Credit Union
began to add to those eligible to join and now has the following Select
Employee Groups (SEG) and, along with employees, the students are able
to open accounts: Rome City School District, Camden Central School
District, Canastota Central School District, Westmoreland Central School
District, Madison Central School District, Holland Patent Central School
District, Adirondack Central School District, Poland Central School
District, South Lewis Central School, New York State School for the
Deaf, Rome Catholic School, Madison-Oneida BOCES, Jervis Public Library,
and Lewis County General Hospital; and
WHEREAS, The Rome Teachers Federal Credit Union moved from Strough
School in 1998 to 924 Turin Street in Rome; currently, there are six
student run high school branches that operate from October to May each
year and an ITM in Camden, New York; and
WHEREAS, The success of CAP COM Federal Credit Union is in direct
correlation to the efforts of its CEO Tracy Worden, who has been with
the credit union for more than 25 years, and her staff, whose
involvement is, and always has been, characterized by an impressive
commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of
excellence in all endeavors on behalf of this vital institution and the
community it serves; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
institutions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the Rome Teachers Federal Credit
Union; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to CEO Tracy Worden, Rome Teachers Federal Credit Union.
