MEMORIALIZING Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim
May 12-18, 2019, as Skilled Nursing Care Week in the
State of New York
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor those
illustrious organizations of the State of New York whose purposeful
endeavors serve to enhance the quality of life for the cherished
citizens in their communities; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to memorialize
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim May 12-18, 2019, as Skilled Nursing
Care Week in the State of New York, in conjunction with the observance
of National Skilled Nursing Care Week; and
WHEREAS, Established by the American Health Care Association in 1967
and always beginning on Mother's Day, National Skilled Nursing Care Week
provides an opportunity for residents and their loved ones, staff,
volunteers, and surrounding communities to recognize the role of skilled
nursing care centers in caring for America's seniors and individuals
with disabilities; and
WHEREAS, New York is stronger because we honor and respect our
elders, and citizens of any age with physical or intellectual
disabilities, who reside at a skilled nursing or post-acute care center
throughout the State; and
WHEREAS, These citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge
to the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their
past contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and
valuable asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, Every skilled nursing care center embodies a unique and
vibrant spirit and community for residents, volunteers and staff alike;
acts of kindness, generosity and compassion from proud veterans,
immigrants, and hardworking people of different faiths fill the walls of
each center; and
WHEREAS, During National Skilled Nursing Care Week, skilled nursing
care centers will unite under the theme, "Celebrating Life's Stories";
centers will be encouraged to collect narratives on each individual's
most significant life events, relationships and experiences to cultivate
a shared sense of purpose at the center and in the surrounding
community; and
WHEREAS, All citizens are encouraged to visit a loved one, friend,
or neighbor being cared for in any setting, and to offer a kind word and
a personal touch to show their continuing support; and
WHEREAS, New York is committed to quality health care and to
continuously improving quality of life; this Legislative Body is proud
to embrace the theme of "Celebrating Life's Stories" which pays homage
to the diverse set of perspectives that residents, family and staff
bring to everyday interactions; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim May 12-18, 2019, as
Skilled Nursing Care Week in the State of New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo, Governor of the State of
New York.
