CONGRATULATING Nancy Wright upon the occasion of
being inducted into the 26th Annual May W. Newburger
Women's Roll of Honor by the Town of North
Hempstead, in conjunction with the observance of
Women's History Month
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those women of achievement within this great Empire State
who have made strong contributions to their communities and who inspire
others through their model citizenship; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Nancy Wright upon the occasion of being inducted into the
26th Annual May W. Newburger Women's Roll of Honor by the Town of North
Hempstead, in conjunction with the observance of Women's History Month,
to be celebrated with a breakfast on Wednesday, March 27, 2019, at
Harbor Links Golf Course, Port Washington, New York; and
WHEREAS, Since 1994, North Hempstead has held the Women's Roll of
Honor breakfast to honor women who have made a contribution to their
community, or have accomplished a significant achievement through public
or private efforts; Nancy Wright is one such woman; and
WHEREAS, Born in the Midwest, Nancy Wright met her husband, Will, at
Michigan State University where they both majored in speech and radio, a
precursor to a television major; the couple moved to Port Washington,
where they raised three sons; and
WHEREAS, As a stay-at-home mom, Nancy Wright was actively involved
with her children's lives as a Boy Scout leader, a class mother, and
both a PTA officer and President; and
WHEREAS, Nancy Wright has taken great pride in her Beacon Hill
neighborhood, serving as President of the Beacon Hill's Women's
Association and then the entire Beacon Hill Residents' Association;
today, she is an active member of its Book Club; in this capacity, she
hosts meetings at her house and encourages new residents of the
neighborhood to join the Club; and
WHEREAS, In the early 1990s, Nancy Wright held the position of
President of Friends of the Port Washington Public Library, and for the
past 25 years, she has served as its Vice President; throughout her
tenure, she diligently works to ensure the passage of the Library's
budget, and is always ready to lend a helping hand wherever needed; and
WHEREAS, When she is not helping someone, Nancy Wright enjoys
playing tennis and golf, making jewelry, and reading; she also plays her
French horn in the Freeport Community Band; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Nancy Wright has displayed
throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of the State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Nancy Wright upon the occasion of being inducted into the
26th Annual May W. Newburger Women's Roll of Honor by the Town of North
Hempstead, in conjunction with the observance of Women's History Month;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Nancy Wright.
